MEP 2014 - No MP4 export?

terrypin wrote on 9/26/2013, 11:50 AM

MEP 2014 Premium (with latest patch) no longer seems able to export projects to MP4,  my preferred type. That option results in an M2TS file.

On a tiny 1920 x 1080 project  (just a JPG and an MOV, total duration 4 seconds) the file sizes from 2013 and 2014 respectively were:

TEMP-Test2013ExportMP4.mp4  2.4 MB

TEMP-Test2014ExportMP4.m2ts 9.3 MB (almost 4 times as long).

What preset are you using? I'm getting .mp4 files with SD and HD settings, although I did have this happen to me earleir, I didn't make a note of which setting I had used.

MP4 can contain either simple or H 264 encoded video, so in theory the only real difference between H 264 MP4 and H 264 M2TS files is the wrapper, and hence the name. Like for like - resolution, bitrate and so on, I would have thought they would be the same size for the same quality

Hi Terry

I found similar as jeffjn - mp4 export as normal - although I have not had jeffjn's earler problem of no export option.

Hi Jeff,

"What preset are you using?"

The wrong one! I should have checked. Never had it slip off that usual setting before, but I'll watch out from now on.

Are you finding as I am that exports at this setting take about 20% longer from 2014 than 2013?

That drops to a 10% difference if I enable H/W accel in Prog Settings > Video/Audio in 2014 (although that setting seems to have no effect on 2013 export times).

Hi Terry

. . . . Are you finding as I am that exports at this setting take about 20% longer from 2014 than 2013?

That drops to a 10% difference if I enable H/W accel in Prog Settings > Video/Audio in 2014 (although that setting seems to have no effect on 2013 export times). . . . .

After further testing I am finding approx an 8% increase in render times compared to MEP 2013 - both using HWA (Quick Sync) in the i5 integrated HD4600 graphics.

As I said in another post I have dumped the NVidia CUDA card in favour of the HD4600 - it is much faster and reliable.
