MEP 2014 not importing sound from videos

charles123 wrote on 10/8/2018, 11:23 PM

I am running MEP 2014. I routinely dragged m2ts video files into this program. Earlier this year (2018), I noticed that when I dragged the video files into the program, the audio portion was no longer being imported. I have read other threads, and it is likely that something happened during a Win10 update. I looked at the solutions that were proposed in another thread (https://www.magix.info/us/forum/audio-issue-mts-files--1205780/?page=1), and the focus was on getting Dolby Digital activated/updated. However, I tried these various solutions, and they didn't work on my older version (MEP 2014, Version 13.0.5.5). Has anyone figured out how to fix the problem for MEP 2014?

@emmrecs

Hi Jeff,

I went to the thread you referenced and followed the instructions that worked for the kapitandeepblue who has the same version of MEP2014 as me.  Unfortunately, it did not work.  Here is what happened.

1.  Starting from step #3, I chose the “Standard DVD NTSC ACS” preset.  This differs slightly from the kaptiandeepblue who used “Standard DVD NTSL ACS” but that might just be a typo.

2.  The problem arises when I go to the “Audio Settings” tab.  I can set the “Audio Type” as AC3.  HOWEVER, the “Mode” window is set to Stereo, and the window is greyed out so I cannot choose the desired setting of Surround 5.1.  Based on other threads, I feel that if I could just choose Surround 5.1, that would be sufficient to trigger the update.

3.  I did try to choose other options under “Audio Type”, but none of them gave a Surround 5.1 option either.

Can you give me any insight into why my software differs from kapitandeepblue even though we have the same version?  Do you have any idea how to get to a Surround 5.1 option?

Hi again.

Sorry that doesn't seem to have worked for you! I no longer have MEP 2014 so cannot do any tests of how this might work, sorry. (Yes, there was a clear typo in what the kapitaindeepblue wrote!)

However, did you choose that only option of Stereo mode? If so, did that unlock at least that part of the problem, I ask because I wonder whether doing that, closing and then reopening MEP might then allow the 5.1 option?

I've never used 5.1 sound so my experience in this area is nil; hopefully other users may have ideas to offer.

Greetings,

I started to look at your problem but I'm confused - sorry.

In your opening post you say

  • "Earlier this year (2018), I noticed that when I dragged the video files into the program, the audio portion was no longer being imported"

but in your reply to Jeff (point 1) you say

  • "Starting from step #3, I chose the “Standard DVD NTSC ACS” preset"

If the problem is that no audio is imported with the video, how can you be trying to adjust the audio setting in the preset?

Sorry to appear dumb, maybe I've missed something.

AndyW

ps - you do have file/settings/program/video_audio "import video with sound" checked? (again apologies for asking the bl***ing obvious)

pps - if it helps, from what I remember of 2014 (come on - 4 years at my age) using MP4 with STD AVCHD preset doesn't allow Surround Audio - as you've found out. I used the preset AVCHD Transport Stream 1920x1080 29.97 when I did videos from my Fuji HD camera. Still do in 2019 version.

Modifying the settings from the advanced tab allows surround to be used.

@emmrecs.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I did go through the entire export process with the Stereo mode. Unfortunately, no update window was triggered. Furthermore, closing and reopening MEP2014 does not change the situation.

Thanks for your time!

I should have been clearer.  I was referring to kapitandeepblu’s instructions located at the thread that emmrecs had directed me to.  In the step #3 that I was referring to above, Kapitandeepblu was exporting a video clip (and choosing the Surround 5.1 option) in order to trigger a window that allowed for the codec update.  My problem is that when I tried this, I was not presented with a Surround 5.1 option so no update window was triggered. (Note: I tried exporting both (a) video clip with missing sound and (b) a different older video clip with sound. Both failed to trigger the update window.)

ps - you do have file/settings/program/video_audio "import video with sound" checked? (again apologies for asking the bl***ing obvious)

Yes, I do have the button checked.  (It never hurts to ask about the obvious.)

pps - if it helps, from what I remember of 2014 (come on - 4 years at my age) using MP4 with STD AVCHD preset doesn't allow Surround Audio - as you've found out. I used the preset AVCHD Transport Stream 1920x1080 29.97 when I did videos from my Fuji HD camera. Still do in 2019 version.

Are you suggesting that I try exporting the video clip as AVCHD Transport Stream?  I don’t see that option when I try exporting a video clip.  To be clear, I’m not actually interested in exporting the video clip.  I’m just going through the motions to try and trigger the update window.

me_again wrote on 10/11/2018, 1:25 AM

Greetings,

I've only ever used the various generations Movie Edit Pro as the premium version so I don't know if AVHCD Transport Stream is available in other versions, but yes that's what I'm suggesting especially as you don't really want an exported clip. Certainly in MEP 2019 the audio patch was triggered by this..

If you can't see the option for AVCHD try clicking the "display all" box under the preset line at the top of the MP4 export window. If your version supports AVCHD then the option should appear.

@me_again.

Hi AndyW,

After some more digging, it appears that my version of MEP2014 doesn't offer Surround. Only the MEP2014 Plus or Premium versions support this. At least I understand why none of the previous strategies have worked for me. (I also can't find the AVCHD option on my program so I'm guessing that is only available on Plus/Premium.)

Thanks for your time on this!
