MEP 2014 Size/Position: Changes in preview monitor

terrypin wrote on 11/21/2013, 8:55 AM

Following the latest patch I think I'll now switch from 2013 to 2014 (although if rendering performance remains an issue I may revert). Meanwhile I have some probably basic questions, starting with this one.

When in Movement effects > Size/Position the new rotation red handle at the top is a welcome new feature over 2013. But what is the purpose of the tiny white central circle? Does it merely serve as a reminder that size and positon can be changed, in case the orange corner handles are not visible? Wouldn't I know that anyway if I'm in Size/Position?

I'm in that mode a lot and might want to turn both of these minor distractions off when I'm dragging the time marker through a clip. Surprising how noticeable they are in some landscapes! Anyone know if that's possible please?

Edit: Of course, I could simpy switch from Edit to Preview! But I do tend to leave Size/Position permanently in Edit mode so that's a minor pain.

Hi Terry

AFAICS the little circle is just the centre indicator it does not appear to be used for anything else.

There are a couple of things which I think would increase the usefulness of the handles

1.   Rotation handle - the only thing I find missing is the lack of indication that this is indeed a rotation handle - the mouse pointer still remains as a 4 headed arrow insted of changing to a rotation symbol when hovering over the handle.

2.   The ability distort the shape of the video using the Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys in combination wth the mouse eg this would make fitting several clips fit on a cube much easier.

It is interesting that the Rotation handle (and bar) moves to exterior to the video as you rotate it past approx 30 deg left or right past vertical - any ideas why?

Hi John,

Yes, sloppy programming IMO, the cursor should change to the 'rotate' type. But I just regard Large dot = Rotate, Small dot = Size.

I think the position must be the program's attempt to place it in the most convenient place, perhaps with a preference for being outside the image part if possible. It seems to jump around a lot!

I don't use Rotation much. The main feature I'd like concerns the sizing. If you zoom in beyond about 120% the tool disappears altogether off the screen. It would be so handy if the tiny orange handles remained accessible at all times.

Agree if would be even better of the rotate control was in the centre like PSP, Photoshop and many other editors .

Re the little circle in the centre - perhaps this will be developed into the ability to move this to change the centre of rotation of the object?  Now that would be a big plus for me.
