MEP 2015 Plus audio drift when editing mp4

Hi gang...It seems like I ask this every time I install the latest version of MEP, but sadly, I have to ask it again. Here's the nutshell.

1. I capture programming from my Directv Genie via an AverMedia C283S, which saves it to an external HD as an MP4 file.

2. I load the MP4 file into MEP, in this case 2015, to remove the commercials and burn the edited program to a DVD.

The further along I get in the program, the more pronounced the audio drift becomes. I can play the raw MP4 file outside of MEP and there is no audio drift anywhere in the program. I can load the MP$ into VideoStudio 7 and it edits and plays fine, no audio drift. I have tried Mep 2015, 2014, and 2013 and all exhibit the same drift. Is mep just unable to handle MP4 files properly. I'm presently using a win8 64 bit system with 16 gb ram. I prefer the flow of MEP to VS7, but if MEP is going to be unusable, why keep with it, eh? Any ideas?

Regards...Bruce

Hi gang...I was reading some of the other posts dealing with audio drift and I'm wondering if I sense a pattern here. It seems like all the audio drift problems with MEP historically come down to how MEP deals with MPEG-4 files in all it's various interations. (Avchd, mts, etc) My files captured with the AverMedia C283S list properties as Data rate: 14986 kbps, bit rate 15114 kbps and frame rate as 59 fps. These readings come from selecting properties in Windows File Explorer after highlighting the file. The same files properties after being loaded into VideoStudioPro7 are listed as 29.971 frame rate and a data rate of 653 kbps. in MEP, selecting file properties from within the import tree shows the same as explorer, but after loading it on the timeline and then selecting properties, it doesn't show a bitrate or datarate, but does show it as framerate of 29.97. I did purchase the mainconcept MPEG 4 codec after I got MEP2015, but I don't know where it put that. Where do I look to check that? It doesn't show up in my list of installed codecs from within windows system info.

Does VSP7 do some sort of file conversion after loading my MPEG-4 file that MEP does not? Very confusing

Hi Gang...Continuing my research into this problem, I'm leaning more towards the problem stemming from how each program reads the audio as opposed to the framerate. I'm searching now for a way to read the attributes of the original file independent of what windows reports. I'll check back with what I find.

Hi Bruce

Try GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse the video / audio.

I personally prefer GSpot because it also tells you if the required codecs are installed and if the video can be played - it may be old but works on all versions of Windows including 8.1, is completely self contained and uses the codecs that are installed on the PC.

Thanks for the comeback, John. I have installed GSpot and will check the files tonight, but in an interesting developement, the fifth of the first six files I'm working with performed fine. Briefly, I captured six saved American Football games from my Directv Genie to an external HD via an AverMedia C283S. The captured files are in MP4 format. All six were captured one after the other in succession. All exhibited the audio drift problem in MEP 2015 until the fifth, which performed fine throughout. The only variable that is apparent is the installation of the update to MEP. However, that update was installed prior to editing the fourth file, so I'm at a loss. I'll know more after I inspect the files themselves tonight. Stay tuned...
