MEP 2015 Plus on TWO devices

n2tvaudio wrote on 9/22/2014, 12:15 PM

Hello All,

It's the Forum Newbie again.

I recently Upgraged from MEP 2014 TO MEP 2015 Plus (this is how much I REALLY like this software)

Anyway....I installed it on my HP PC and thought that I would do the same and intall it on my Laptop.

UNFORTUNATELY, once it was installed and opened, I thought I could use the same Serial# to Register it on my Laptop, but I was mistaken.

My question is: What do I need to do to have the SAME software, that I PAID FOR on two devices at the same time?....I don't feel I should have to wait a month to Uninstall it from one device in order to use it on another. I would like the benefit of using this on both.

Thank You

Hi

. . . . What do I need to do to have the SAME software, that I PAID FOR on two devices at the same time . . . .

How many licences did you buy?

One licence = 1 computer installation - as stated in the EULA section 1 - you need two licences

New Magix program licensing system

As you saw and for other users that may not yet have seen this, Magix recently changed their system to register the information of the computer where one of its programs is installed so that the program only runs on one computer at a time, undoubtedly to cut down on piracy and abuse. As far as I know, you can now install the program on as many computers as you want, but again, you are only able to run it on one computer at a time.

The program now detects a change or installation to another computer upon startup and you can deregister one computer and register the other. I went through this process with Magix Audio & Music Cleaning Lab 2014 (AML)recently.

When you open the program on a deregistered computer, a splash screen appears and the choice is to either check the license or close the program. If you check the license, you will be asked if you want to register the current computer and deregister the other one. This can be done once per month.

This may not help someone who travels frequently and wants to take the program along each time, but on the otherhand, it makes it convenient and legal to be able to use the same license on a second computer (but only one at a time) with this new system. For someone who very frequently needs the program one a second computer, as John Baker indicated, it would be better to buy a second license.

My example: I have AML2014 installed on my desktop and my laptop. It is currently registered for my desktop. If I open AML on the desktop, it opens with no problem. If I open it on my laptop, the first screen indicates that the license needs to be checked and that I need to be connected to the internet. If I select check the license, the program will check, tell me that AML is registered for use on another computer and ask if I want to change to the laptop. If I accept, it will do so and I will be told that I can change once again in one month. If I go back to my desktop and try to AML, it will tell me that it wants to check the license, and then that it is licensed to operate on my laptop but that I cannot change it until the month expires.

Hi John CB

Can you confirm that this only affects the new programs? For instance if I buy a new computer and want to install a program I own, say MEP2014, that will run concurrently on my old machine, will I be faced with this hoopla?

Peter

Hi Peter,

As far as I know, it is only for new programs. It seems to be an addition to the programming, whereas it would not be programmed ito the older versions. I just checked on my laptop and I can still run an older program that is also on my desktop, but it was already there. However, I can't say if this would happen if I installed an older version of something that is also on another machine. When you put in the serial number and the the license is checked, that may be when their new program kicks in somehow.

Maybe someone can try installing an older version on a second machine to see what happens. Remember that we have a limited number (5, I believe) of serial number registrations with the older programs. This new system may eliminate the problem of running out of possible registrations for upgrades to computers, new computers, re-installations, etc.

Further information about the new licensing process

Magix states: "note that the program requires an Internet connection at least once a month to validate the license."

OMG ...

First allow me to apologize for the delayed response

Second...THANK YOU ALL: johnebaker, browj2 and Scenestealer for your concerns and answers on this matter.

I didn't know at the time that my inquiry would spark up such a response.

I TRULY appreciate all of you for taking the time to offer suggestions, information and overall feed back.

Moving forward, to avoid confusion for now, I've decided to keep MEP Pro 2015 Plus on my desktop and also keep the already installed MEP 2014 on my laptop.

I will be utilizing the use of my desktop more often for any projects that I'll be working on.

Again, Thank you all for your time and responses.
