MEP de-noiser: Tick or Untick ''Remove camera noise only'' difference?

Apollo89x wrote on 11/6/2021, 10:03 AM

Hello this is quite a specific question - But so hopefully one of you guys knows the answer to it.

In the de-noiser tab on MEP there's a box which gives you the option to either tick or untick ''Remove camera noise only''.
But so does anyone know exactly what this means? / What the difference is in the result if you tick or untick that box?

*I have looked at the manual for MEP but it doesn't provide any info about this.

I don't know exactly which version of MEP you have, but in MEP Premium 2022 the option seems to be labelled as "Camera: Remove fan hum".

I've never needed to use this but, taken at face value, it assumes that you have audio "noise" in your video whose source is the fan on your camera. Clearly, there is some (quite big) assumption being made as to the frequency range of that "hum" - in my experience the noise of each and every camera is at least slightly different, even from two of the same model from the same manufacturer - and the process aims to remove or reduce that hum.

How "effective" it is in actual use is open to argument, and experiment.

In practice, I have never found the "noise" of the camera to be at all intrusive to the point where it is even partially "covering" the wanted audio.

Hello and thanks for your response, but I think you have mis-understood my question. :/

In regards to the various ''noises'' which can be selected for removal (in Step 1#), those are self-explanatory, and so I'm fine with. :)
(The one I am using is ''Remove mains hum 50hz'')

My question though relates to the options in Step 2#, where there is a box saying ''remove camera noise only'', and you have to decide whether to tick or untick it...

Hi

This particular setting is for removing audio that is generated by some older cameras eg when zooming, the motor noise can be picked up by the microphone by transmission through the camera due to poor microphone isolation.

If you do not suffer from such noise then leave it unchecked.
