MEP MX Plus - Fonts quality is bad in rendered/exported film.

amirkaufmann wrote on 11/19/2013, 6:11 PM

When the film is still under editing - fonts in all titles are sharp, clean and well defined.

But, after exporting teh final film as a DVAVI file, or MPEG2 file, or rendered as a DVD (MPEG2) - all fonts seem problematic:

1. Thin lines patterns at the backgrounds (within the fonts).

2. Fonts edges seem less sharp.

3. Sometimes, some lines apear near a few fonts.

All 3 phenomenas are very distinguished, and seem to be different issues.

Is any of this caused by technical issues? wrong definition somewhere?

or is it a hidden text/watermark (all my software is legal).

Many thanks for any support.

Hi

Are you exporting to these Standard Definition formats from an HD project? The title editor in MEP is dependant on the project settings / resolution and will often show aliasing artifacts and distortions during the down res. Make sure your project's settings match your intended export settings.

Hello Ss,

I re-checked again (what was like obvious to me) and indeed, the movie settings are the same as the export setting (wether AVI or MPEG)= 720/576  25  16:9.

So this seems not to be a reason for my problem.

Is there anything else that might affect the fonts/text/titles?

amirkaufmann,

I did a couple of quick tests thinking, as Ss suggested, that export setting were the problem. With very low 'Quality' and bitrate in the advanced settings I did get poor video but the title text was not all that bad. Seems bitrate more affects the smooth blending of colors in the video image.

Are your problems the same with all fonts? One possibility is your using fonts that is not fully scalable.

Carl

Hi,

Hard to have a useful discussion without something solid (and visual) to try.

Make a small, non-confidential project exhibiting the problem and use File > Backup > Copy project and media into a folder, zip it up and upload it so that we can see what you mean and try to reproduce it.

As a (poor) second best, a few screenshots would help.

Thank you Terry, for the direction.

I quite agree that seeing would replace many weak words.

I will do so, and would try both options - early next week (heavily busy week this one).

Also, how are you wiewing the result - on a computer from file or standalone player from disc and did you export interlaced or progressive?

Are you creating "standard" titles with the MEP Titler or 3D or with another program?

This is not an answer to the original question but I'm posting here so it might be found if someone searches for help about titles.

I've created this problem:

An identical pair of titles have been enlarged. Test1 was brought up to 72 points using the Title >> General font size control, while Test2 was enlarged using Effects >> Size/Position.Chalk and cheese at this scale, but I wonder if anyone might be wondering why they have lost text quality by making smaller image size adjustments rather than altering the font size.

Partly, I could reply now:

What I described was viewed on my computer HD screen, both with files (AVI/MPEG2) and with a rendered (MPEG2) DVD.

All my work has been always done in progressive mode.

Indeed, I realized (only now when looking into what could have been wrong...)  that I used a 3D option when creating the titles, but had no time to remake the 3 video/films aimed to be screened in 6/12 and had to be delivered.

I intend to try to make a new film, partly with 3D (same) and partly cleaned - just with titles, so comparison would be possible.

amirkaufmann wrote on 11/28/2013, 6:06 AM

As suggested, I can share more objective description of the problem.

This image was screen printed out of the DVAVI export I made from the session. This is a sterile session (no audio/video material, just fonts tests. Starting with 25 seconds set of fonts (with 3D), same without, and 3rd trial with new fonts (David).

I have marked with red arrows a few of the clearly annoying lines added to the fonts, sometimes outside of them, sometimes inside. This is my main problem.

I have tried to delete the 3D (that by mistake was left chosen in my real work film) - but there was no change.

I have also tried to choose different set of fonts (David instead of Trebuche) - same. no change.

I have also saved the project as backup, but if relevant, please advice me how to bring it here.

Any rescue advice?

As far as I can see, there is no parameter left in the fonts window to change.

I have also made a few seconds video with the same image.[[VIDEO:cloud://]]

Sorry Amir but the screen shot is too small to see the artifacts and the video link does not work.

Perhaps upload both to Dropbox and paste the link.

I have uploaded the image and video into dropbox, and also put the video in vimeo.

The problem of outer lines to some fonts is much clearer in the image.

The (lesser) issue of background thin lines (as a pattern) could be always seen.

This is the dropbox link:

And this is the Vimeo (password = moments):

I remind that I could not find within MEP MX Plus any way to clean the fonts and would be Very thankful to any solution.
