MEP2015Plus - how to force DVD to render from original sources, not from existing proxies

Recycler wrote on 11/12/2014, 4:00 AM

Since I knew that I would need DVD output from a multi-cam project, I selected "make suitable quality for DVD" proxies when bringing in my four 1080i50 AVCHD sources. The project is now completed and ready to be output.

However (as I have commented elsewhere) Magix has had a problem creating a proxy for one stream, such that beyond a certain point along the time line the proxy goes wrong. It still displays something, but it's actually a still frame and from the very start of the file. It's easily visible if viewed in the preview monitor (when this is set to use proxies) because it shows empty seats and not happy, singing choirs!

It has been quite possible to work with this, however, because

  1. the 'posters' on the time line are always correct (presumably they are derived from the master source rather than any proxy), and
  2. the preview monitor is fine, as long as you set it not to use proxies.

Now to the crunch. I need to prevent Magix (when it makes the DVD stream) from using the proxies it has so carefully prepared, and work only from the masters. Groping about the various advanced options in the burning area of the program I can't find any user controls to explicitly do this - I don't imagine the situation was foreseen when Magix wrote the software specification.

Can anybody point me in the right direction please, or suggest a workaround? As a newbie to MEP2015 I'm devoid of ideas! Thank you.

Hi

. . . . I need to prevent Magix (when it makes the DVD stream) from using the proxies it has so carefully prepared, and work only from the masters . . . .

Do you mean this or as the title of the topic title 'how to force DVD to render from original sources, not from existing proxies'

MEP does not render from the proxies, they are for speeding up the editing process only by reducing the ;load on the processor.

When you creat a disc or export the original files are used.

Hi John:

I hope my subject line question and the text you've quoted come to the same thing. My understanding from reading page 75 of the PDF manual was the opposite to yours!

I interpreted this as saying that because I explicitly chose a proxy quality suitable for DVD, then the proxies will indeed be used, not only to relieve the load on the CPU/GPU whilst editing, but also when rendering output.

Hence my question about how I might force the original masters to be used when rendering.....

In that you are correct, however I assumed that you had selected the option in the Proxy settings shown in the image below

Turn off the setting shown in the image then the original files should be used.

Note: if you reset the above dialog to the default Best performance for playback, this will trigger a request to regenerate the proxies.

Many thanks John, unticking that box sorted it. I left it rendering overnight and it came out perfectly. I really should have found that option myself, but I didn't, so there we are!  I learn something every day.

(I still can't explain what went wrong in the first place with Magix's proxy converter, which I ran twice in the end and each run had a problem. I was able to convert the same master to DVD-quality MPG in my old Serif MoviePlus first time with no errors.)

Anyway, many thanks for your continuing patient support of my learning process, and also for providing the solution.
