I have to shotgun microphones pointing at the wedding couple, and the justice of piece has a mic tht didnt do much. Problem is they are on the beach and I can hear the waves. What EQ do I use here to turn them uo and wves down?
don't use a shotgun microphone you capture all voice and sound like waves or bird. Use a Le Cavalier micro wireless for both poeple. If you use a shotgun you must remove unwanted noise and play with software that is long and tedious work sometines with poor result. Rent equipment to test or go to a rental store and ask to test on place.
Personally, I don't think it will be achievable by altering EQ without making speech unintelligible.
You could try a noise-canceling plugin such as the one in the external audio editor and take a noise sample then try to filter it out that way but my expectations would not be that high.
The reduction of the waves sound is very difficult - the noise is virtually 'white noise' which has a very wide band of audio frequencies and is random in nature.
You may be able to reduce it a little, however excessive filtering may introduce shifts, warbles or distortion in the spoken audio.
I agree with @yvon-robert suggestion of using wireless Lavalier microphones as the best option.
