@discburn

Are you aware that that is the same processor that we discussed recently in your post about the Surface Book2?

It is indeed! Sorry about that! 😩

Hi Seamus,

I have a Surface Pro 4, i5-6300U, wishing that I had the i7. I only have 8GB RAM, wishing I had 16, and 256GB SSD, wishing I had 512. I also inserted a micro SD card, of course, 128 GB, wishing it was 256.

That said, VPX and MEP, and MusicMaker, Samplitude Pro X3 and Xara work fine, but I haven't done a lot of difficult work with them. Editing on a small screen is difficult when one is used to a 27" and 25" screen.

Once you have a Surface Pro, you need to add a keyboard, mouse and stylus. I can't work without the stylus.

Then you need to add in the bigger power supply - the Surface Dock, with additional USB and other ports. There is only 1 USB port with the Surface Pro.

Add in a big portable hard drive.

The is also another port (C - type?) to connect some peripherals. You may be interested in the adapters for VGA and HDMI.

I also have a Bose wireless headset (35), over the ear, noise-cancelling (thanks to AirMiles).

Would you like fries with that?

Don't get me wrong, I love my Surface Pro and the peripherals, and I wouldn't consider anything else after having this for almost 3 years. But, it hasn't replaced my 9-year old desktop.

Hi John,

A friend of mine is thinking of getting the Surface Pro 6. She's a Movie Edit Pro user, has a good desktop for it, so would only use the Surface for light cutting, as well as non-video work. I’ll tell her about the 16GB RAM version and the Stylus.

I'm looking at the Surface Book 2, myself. But that’s 'down the road'. My Dell T5500 is still doing some hefty work with Video Pro X6!

Hi Seamus

. . . . I'm looking at the Surface Book 2, myself . . . .

What a coincidence - I was looking at a 15" Surface Book 2 i7 512 GB SSD a few days ago. It is a very nice machine, fast and fairly lightweight, however . . . . . . . . .

I decided against it, for that money I can get a similar spec laptop with bigger screen and dual internal drives , upgrade my PC HDD's to SSD and get a new 4K TV.

No contest. 😄😄😄

Cheers

@johnebaker

Hi John,

Yes, when I'm on the road, I could do some Video Pro X and Samplitude Pro X3 work if I had a powerful portable device. I'd like it to be a tablet, too, for on a flight, so I would only want the 13" version (I'm accustomed to an iPad).

That sounds like a great deal!
