I know this is quite late, but maybe it will help someone...

There's no reason this shouldn't work in Music Maker. Plug it in, start music maker, go to File - Settings - Program Settings. Click the Audio/MIDI tab, set the Input Device to whatever the MPK is (probably "MPK" or "MK3"). I have the Akai LPK25, which is basically your MPK without the pads and it works fine with no additional drivers or configuration needed. You should see the keys light up if you have the Keyboard panel visible in Music Maker.
