missing project files

Ken-Vaughn wrote on 4/29/2020, 5:12 PM

I need to edit a project that I created 2 or 3 years ago using Magix Movie Edit Pro Ver 16.0.1.22 on this same PC running   Windows 7. When I load the project, I get messages that some of the files are missing. I have searched all relevant directories without success. There is no reason any of the files would have been removed. Any suggestions?

Also, where can I look for the compiled movie file? I only used the Movie Edit Pro default files when set up. I do have a copy that I burned to disc  but that doesn't help me with editing. Or can it be "decompiled"??

I will appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Ken

Hi Ken.

Have you actually opened the location of the project to see what files do exist?

Are the files you originally used to make the project still on the pc?

When you made the project, did you copy the files you used into the project or just import them from the folder you used as the source? If you did the latter then you need to find the location of those files.

If the original files are no longer on the PC or you did not copy the files into the project then the answer is no.

You can't actually decompile a DVD as such but you may be able to put the files onto your hard drive. Things like transitions, fades, any sound mixes can't be undone. Only edited out. So the footage at those points will not be usable other than as they already exist on the DVD.

Hi Ken and welcome to the forum.

. . . . I get messages that some of the files are missing . . . .

What files does it say are missing and and are they on an external drive, camera or memory card?

If an external drive has the drive letter changed?

Assuming the files are still in the original folders where MEP thinks they are, did you use the Folder option and point it to the folder again, you may have to do this for every file it thinks is missing?

A screenshot of the message would also help.

Hi

Also, where can I look for the compiled movie file?

If you open the Project / Movie Settings (E key) and select the second tab Movie Information, you will see all the individual clips with their folder paths listed - if this is what you mean?
