Modifying distortion in a single track

How do you modify distortion in a single track? Instead of having to make 50 different tracks to go from a little distortion to alot of it i would like to see if its possible to do it on a single track. Someone said something about  "liveproformer" or something but Im not sure where it is.

Thanks

Hi

Can you be more specific about the type of distortion you are aiming for - there are so many different types eg overload, fuzz, phase etc.

John

Sorry. I am not sure what its called but im sure it has a name. I am not talk aabout  the different type of distrotion but actually distortion in a track. I want distortion in a track on a single instrument to change as the song is played. I hope this makes sense.
