More MEP Problems

Hardware: Asus P8Z77-V LX, i5 3570k (4ghz), 32gb ram, Geforce GTX970 (4gb),

Software: Windows 10 Home, MEP 18.0.1.209

Every time I try to load the Effects Menu, the following happens:

Error in module "Qt5CoreMx64Qt57.dll (Load Address: 0x0000000070AB0000) to address 0x0000000070AB3600 (Exception 0xc0000005 "Access Violation")

If it's not one thing with MEP, it's another. Software has been more trouble than it's worth this last year or so. after 15 years, i think i need to cut my losses.

Please don't advise me to update to a later version - i'm "back here" because later versions were causing major crashes.

Hi

. . . . Every time I try to load the Effects Menu . . . . .

Do you mean when you open the Effects tab or the Templates tab?

I suspect that as the error is due to the program trying to use the GTX 970, as the processor integrated GPU (iGPU) is not compatible. MEP HWA first worked with the Intel HD4600 iGPU the i5 3570k uses the HD 4000 iGPU.

Try turning off the 2 Hardware acceleration options in the Program Settings, Import & Export tab.

If the program still crashes try changing the Video mode to Compatibility mode (Video for Windows).

If that does not solve the issue then

. . . . Exception 0xc0000005 "Access Violation . . . . Software has been more trouble than it's worth this last year or so. after 15 years, i think i need to cut my losses. . . . .

This is one of the most difficult errors to diagnose as an Access Violation is triggered when any program running on Windows attempts to access a location or data from a location that has not been assigned to it - the cause could be any of the following: registry issue, faulty RAM, hard drive beginning to fail, corrupt drivers, virus infection, other software, Windows system files versions mismatch.

Given the age of the computer, and if the above suggestions do not fix the issue - then hardware issues mentioned above need investigating, however given the demands of modern video editing software a new computer may be required.

John

this computer was actually running without these issues prior to the upgrade to ver19 earlier this year, which resulted in the reinstall of 18.

will give your suggestion a try. but i'm loathe to start upgrading hardware for a piece of software that has been consistently failing for the best part of a year.

it's not as if i'm doing anything resource intensive with it - 1920*1080 video res, small 5-10 min files. the software has become a joke.

even the "Update" nag popups at program boot should be disabled - but they don't. Magix have always wanted to force stuff on the user - regardless of how usable it actually is.

Hi Martin.

When you uninstalled the various versions of MEP you have been trying, did you use the windows fiFxit tool to get rid of all registry entries for MEP as requested on the reinstall page? If you didn't there could be remnants of the previous installs causing problems.

It would, and it is not the software that is failing - the prior version to 19 you had used a different 'engine', the version 19 (MEP 2020) has the new 'Infusion' engine which requires modern hardware that is not available in your PC.

Hi John. Hi Martin.

I think why Martin is so upset is he is not getting MEP 18.0.1.209 running again whereas before it was running.

So he can't even go back to a fully working version.

But. Personally I don't think it is MEP at fault but Windows 10 in this instance. Since Martin could last run MEP 18.0.1.209 there have been significant Win 10 updates to how windows is prioritising hardware resources that were not there before and could be the reason it is no longer functioning as expected. Windows updates can not be stopped, only delayed for short periods. It is like awaiting multiple time bombs to go off not knowing when each explosion will happen. There has already been updates to Direct X 12 that only nvidia series 3XXXX cards can use. There has also been the introduction of the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling that could be presenting problems to earlier versions on MEP.

I don't think this problem is easily solved or understood beyond the need to have updated software and hardware caused by the pace of change in the industry as a whole.

At least that is my take on things.

Ray.

Hi John

those have already been uninstalled.

I would very much doubt that "what other companies do" is any kind of excuse. magix do not have to do this, they choose to because it's easier to bombard customers until they surrender. these kind of update messaqges would be better served through emails - at least then the customer could choose one way or the other without being constantly nagged every time you attempt to use the program, it's a disgusting way for a company to behave.

i have other commercial apps on my laptop and the majority do not "update nag" in the same manner that Magix do - with other apps if you select "do not remind me again" - they don't. Magix, no matter how many times you tick that box - still insist on "update nagging"

HI Ray, i'm not so sure.

does not occur anywhere else on google search. regardless of whatever MS W10 throws at the customer, Magix - as a company providing apps that are W10 compatible, should be providing fixes to ensure continuity of use. they're not bothered - all they want to do is force updated versions @ £60 per time on their customers. unforgivable stuff.

Hi,

There is a German user who went through this.

Magix advised him to update his graphics driver. Did you try this?

The solution was a reinstallation. Best to use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of everything.

Also, a Xara user had the same problem. He was given a link to replace some of the Qt files, but the link has since expired.

Open the properties of the Qt5CoreMx64Qt57.dll file that is under the program files for MEP. What version do you have? I have 5.7.0.0.6

As you can see, this is not a common problem, in fact it's a very obscure problem, obviously, Magix is not going to be providing fixes to problems that only a few users have reported over the years that may be caused by something other than MEP.

Hi Martin.

From my perspective if a program once worked on a system but then when re-installed does not work, then something had changed. It should not be the program concerned as it should be exactly as it was and If the hardware was the same it can't be that. That only leaves the operating system and possibly newer drivers causing problems.

The last of which on that list I had suffered from a long time ago where rolling a driver back was the only solution. However this has not happened to me with MEP ever, or since I've been running Windows 10.

I have over the years had to update programs because of changes in Windows or to accommodate new hardware or new drivers not being supplied for older hardware.

It's tough, I'm never happy about it, but in my opinion, the idea of backwards compatibility in this context is like trying to get a DAB signal on an FM radio.

Speaking of which I have to renew my 4 year old smartphone because it no longer has enough internal storage and there is no free space to be gained as I have nothing left I can delete. Other than that it works fine except it hangs every now and then and I have to try to clean out what little space there is for me to clean out.

I have the same Effects-tab problem that martin-brennan has, although I get a different error message:

Error in module "Qt5GuiMx64Qt57.dll" (Load address: 0x00007FF9CC510000) to address 0x00007FF9CC7F9953 (Exception 0xc0000005 "ACCESS_VIOLATION").

The Effects worked fine yesterday, but not today. There hasn't been any changes to my system, although I deleted some shortcuts from my desktop (but that shouldn't change the system).

So should I try the same fixes that were suggested to martin-brennan, or something else?

I found that some Italian has had the same error message, and he/she was adviced (if Google translate is right) to download and copy that .dll-file to Windows folder: https://www.magix.info/it/forum/error-in-module-qt5guimx64qt57-dll--1260858/

And I also found that someone using Magix Photostory has had the same error message, and he/she was adviced (in Polish) to turn off the Internet: https://www.magix.info/us/forum/error-in-module--1261612/

Any views on these Italian & Polish solutions?

I have Windows 10, 64-bit, version 2004 / Intel i7-7700K / 16 Gt RAM / GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / MEP v17.0.3.184.

P.S. I also share martin-brennans frustration for MEP. I have used it for more than a decade, and it is a great video editor, when it works. But this autumn I have had several problems with it. First some registry problems, then constant problems related to Intel graphics drivers, and now this.

Hi

. . . . I found that some Italian has had the same error message, and he/she was adviced (if Google translate is right) to download and copy that .dll-file to Windows folder . . . .

Never fix an issue by downloading dll's from an 'unknown' source. - as with many sites offering dll downloads you do not what has been done to the dll and could introduce a trojan, virus or malware.

. . . .And I also found that someone  . . . . was adviced (in Polish) to turn off the Internet . . .

If you read the rest of the post you would find this did not work either.

. . . . The Effects worked fine yesterday, but not today. There hasn't been any changes to my system . . . .

Something did change - at a guess your AntiVirus may have updated and is now giving false positives - this is a known issue with several AV's.

Check your AV Ransomware/ Folder protection features have not blocked/quarantined files from MEP.
