Movie edit pro 2013 does not shut down when trying to quit program. It will collapse and expand the window but the red X does nothing. The EXIT command from the file menu does nothing. The only way to quit the program is to shut down or restart the PC.

In the program settings switch on or off the Hide news option.
Close then restart MEP
Change the Hide news setting back to it original setting, close MEP - it should close normally.
If that fails try resetting the program, File, Settings, Reset program . . . . note - this will lose any custom settings you have made eg folder paths.

I tried both of the methods you mentioned in your reply. Neither worked. I can save projects. Just can shut down the program. Still the only way to shut down the program is to restart my PC. Could it have something to do with a windows 10 update ? It was after the most recent one I started having this issue.

What version number is MEP 2013 at - see under Help, About . . . . ?
The last full patch was 12.0.4.2. there is a later patch 12.0.4.4 which adds 'Connect - Stay up to date with the latest information on MAGIX products, offers, coupons and more' function to the program

That is a possibility, try running the program installer again and when offered, select the Repair option.
