Movie Edit Pro 2013 - I keep losing audio when editing an MPEG

I have imported some of my family videos from a DVD and renamed to .mpg.  Since the DVDs have so many different events on them, I am trying to edit by trimming and saving certain clips to export into a separate .mpg file.  The first one worked really well.  Since then, everytime I use the 'brackets' to load the file into the video monitor for trimming before dragging and dropping into the arranger, I lose audio. Assuming it's something I am doing wrong but have no clue.  It's unfortunately getting very frustrating.  Hopefully what I am asking makes sense.

I'm using a Lenovo laptop with Windows 7.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi

I would not use this method.

I would load the entire movie to the timeline, cut and trim the sections required without botthering to close up the gaps and then export each section using Range Markers and checking the Export selected range option in the Export dialog as shown below

Note: if you move the timeline marker to the start and end points before setting them it is easier to accuately get the right position.
