Movie edit pro 2013 plus

Movie edit pro starts up automatically when I start up windows 10 on my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 510)

I am unable to close down the program in the normal way i.e. by using the X (shutdown) symbol in the top right hand side of the display. In order to continue to use the laptop I have to minimise the movie edit display to clear the screen to allow me to continue.

Hi,

First thing to eliminate is whether MEP 2013 has perhaps somehow been set to start on running Windows? There are unfortunately several ways this is done in Win 10, some a bit obscure, but I'd first check these two:

1. The familiar Startup folder, which should be here:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

2. The more comprehensive list under Task Manager > Start-up.

If neither includes the MEP process (Videodeluxe.exe) then we'll have to dig deeper.

Turning to the persistence issue, I suspect that might possibly be related. Does it happen in all projects? Have you tried resetting program settings to defaults? Or, after closing MEP, locate your Videodeluxe.ini file (the larger of the two files with that name), probably at something like this location
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus\Videodeluxe.ini
Replace that (after the usual precautions) with a slightly older version from your regular backups, or just delete it and allow MEP to replace it with the default on restart.

I'm not too hopeful though, because an (intermittent) inability to close MEP has been experienced by others, including me, and no fully reliable solution has been found. Check out this thread:
https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/exiting-mep-with-the-x-icon-sometimes-fails--1185391/#ca1299241

One other thing you might try: immediately after MEP starts (following reboot), use Task Manager > Details to End Process for any instances of Videodeluxe.exe.

I have this problem with Movie Edit Pro Plus latest version (just bought it this June 2020) There's no item in the Windows 10 START UP to turn off, not even any related components. I appreciate any help. Thanks

Did you try all the suggestions, including those in the other thread I mentioned?

Hi

. . . . Movie edit pro starts up automatically when I start up windows 10 . . . .

If you are running Windows 10, and it is has started happening with MEP 2013, which is built on different technology to the latest version, this tends this tends to support what I have been suspecting the cause of the issue is.

I have had the same issue a couple of times with Movie Edit Pro 2020 and another totally unrelated program on 2 different computers, one running Windows 10 1903 and the other 1909 and it started after the same Windows update was installed on both computers. Since updating both computers to Windows 10 2004 I have not had this happen - so far!

@CoachJohn

Hi

Your issue may also be related to the above, however there is an additional factor to be taken into account.

MEP 2020 carries out additional 'housekeeping' on shut down after installation and first run - the main program interface shuts down however a background process continues running for a short while. Once this has been allowed to complete the and it closes, the program appears not to restart on start up, however if the background process is interrupted or fails to stop then the program restarts.

On closing down MEP, observe in Task Manager, under the Processes section of the background process is running, if it is leave it for a while, 15 - 20 mins, and see if it shuts down.

Hi Terry, I did, but I could not find the file Videodeluxe.ini or any suspecting one except for MxRestart. I guess I need to do trial and error troubleshooting here :) Thank you for some light.

Hi John EB,
I think that's exactly what I'm going to do. Back to trouble shooting days. Thank you for the suggestion. I really appreciate it.

I had this problem for a while, it hasn't happened for a while, i don't know why but i did notice Magix wasn't shutting down properly, in Task manager-processes there were sometimes 4 or 5 Magix events running, if i didn't end those before turning off the PC it would launch Magix when i then later started up my PC & often i got the msg, 'Magix is already running, are you sure you want to open it again' even though all i'd done is turn on the PC
