Movie Edit Pro 2013 will no longer start

I am having issues loading Movie Edit Pro 2013.  I am using WIndows 7.  I haven't had any issues until this weekend I downloaded Handbrake DVD Ripper.  Now when I try to load MEP, I get an error message stating Windows is trying to find a solution.  I uninstalled Handbrake and it still didn't work.  I downloaded the latest patch for MEP and still no success.  I uninstalled MEP and re-installed, same error message.  Any ideas to what may be the cause?

Hi

Uninstalling Handbrake may not have removed or removed correctly ffmpeg - which may have messed up the codecs MEP uses.

Check that ffmpeg has been removed from the computer - Control Panel, Programs, Add/remove or Uninstall/change.

If it is not there then try using Revo uninstaller, as recommended by several members here,  to clear out remnants of the program.

Also if you uninstall / reinstall MEP you must use the Magix Cleaner tool in between uninstalling and installing to ensure any remnants of the program and settings are removed.

Hi,

Just adding to John's suggestion about Revo, which I use regularly and like, you will probably need to re-install Handbrake first. Then use Revo at its third level (i.e. one short of an entire memory scan), to remove all associated files and registry entries.

I haven't had to try it myself, but I think Revo would also do a thorough job of uninstalling MEP too.

If this doesn't solve the problem, perhaps a system restore to an appropriate date?

Thank you both for your help!  I re-installed Handbrake then used Revo to uninstall.  Also uninstalled MEP and used the Magix cleaner before re-installing.  Everything works fine now!  Assuming now that I can't run Handbrake and MEP on the same PC?  I don't have a lot of experience with video but I have a bunch of family movies that I had burned to a DVD.  I was looking for a way to save a digital copy to my computer to edit with MEP.  Someone suggested Handbrake to rip the content. This worked great but then I was unable to edit with MEP.  Any suggestions?

Again, thanks so much for your replies!

Hi

. . . . a bunch of family movies that I had burned to a DVD . . . .

As you created the DVD's yourself there will be no copy protection on the video files.

MEP can open the VOB files directly from the DVD.

However if you want to get copies to your computer then do the following:

  1. Using Windows Explorer make sure it is set to show file extensions

  2. Open the DVD and browse to the VIDEO_TS folder

  3. Copy all VOB files which start with VTS_01_n where n = a sequential number start at 0 to the required folder on your computer.

  4. Still in Windows Explorer open the folder where you copied the files to.

  5. Right click the first VST_01_0.vob file and select Rename

  6. Change the VOB file extension to MPG

  7. Repeat for any other VST files you have copied.

  8. The mpg files can now be imported into MEP

Note using either option the video resolution will 720 * 576 pixels.
