ggrussell,

First I tried without success using a sample wile that comes with Win7 -- in C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV, but I've only just activated MEP 2015 and have not yet downloaded any of the extra codecs etc.

Next, there is quite a lot on the web about converting to another format including this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/convert-a-recorded-tv-file-wtv-to-an-older-format which give you a simple right click conversion (presumably only on a Win 7 machine) to a file that works!

Regards,

Carl

Thanks I am aware of the built in conversion in Win7, but not the same in Win8.1 which doesn't always work.   The conversion is to  .dvr-ms format which most video editors don't support either.  I've tried MANY freeware apps and haven't found anything that works well.
