Movie Edit Pro crashes when it opens a MVP file from Windows Explorer

ka1n0 wrote on 8/29/2020, 3:47 AM

Movie Edit Pro Version: 19.0.2.58

1. Opening a MVP file (moved project to another location) normally asked for "Cannot find file, please choose Folder".

2. Now, suddenly, Movie Edit Pro does not open the file anymore (no choose dialog) but instead just crashes with:

Error in module "Videodeluxe.exe" ... ACCESS_VIOLATION

I thought maybe an update could fix it, but the software does not update anymore. 1 year "update service" has passed. WTF... Does Magix think at least of bug fixes like in the past?!

How to fix this?

@ka1n0

The title of your post says you are unable to open an MVP file from Windows Explorer. Do you mean you are clicking on the file in Explorer and that is provoking the crash? If so, have you tried opening MEP then going to File>Open project and navigating to location of the file? Is that more "successful"?

With reference to your question about "updates"; it has been Magix policy for several years now that initial purchase of any app includes one year of updates/upgrades, starting from the date the app is purchased/registered. At the end of that period you then have the option to renew your Update Service, which entitles you to a further twelve months of updates/upgrades. If you choose NOT to renew the service, the version of the app which you have will not receive any updates, patches etc but will remain exactly as it was at the date the Update service expired. One caveat: should you find it necessary to reinstall the app, for any reason, the reinstallation will return the app to the version that was current when you first bought it, i.e. any updates which you originally received during the initial 12 months will no longer be available to you.

Hi

. . . . Opening a MVP file (moved project to another location) normally asked for "Cannot find file, please choose Folder" . . . suddenly, Movie Edit Pro does not open the file anymore (no choose dialog) but instead just crashes . . .

Exception 0xc0000005 "ACCESS_VIOLATION" are not necessarily caused by the program reporting them, they are also one of the difficult to determine what causes the issue.

It may be caused by issues external to the program eg another program, registry corruption, corrupt device drivers and faulty memory, a Windows update error update is also known to cause this error.

Try a full restart of the computer - Windows button, Power option, Restart.

As this happened suddenly the issue may be related to a Windows and/or Antivirus update, a corrupt project file as a result of the move.

Are there backups of the project available either in the old or new location ? If so try loading them from the latest - by date -moving backwards to earlier version - using the backup name and number does not necessarily mean the highest number is the latest as it is a repeating sequence BAK0 to BAK9 the next is then BAK0 again etc.

. . . . I thought maybe an update could fix it, but the software does not update anymore. 1 year "update service" has passed.... Does Magix think at least of bug fixes like in the past?! . . . .

The terms of the Update Service are quite clear on what happens when it expires - you lose access to further upgrade and updates - you do not lose the ability to use the program.

I bought the new version. This was the only way to fix it.

@ka1n0

In the other post, you indicated that you now have the basic version, and here, you indicate that you bought it. The cost of purchasing basic is 70USD.

Did you not realize that since you had Plus, you could have simply upgraded Plus for 60USD.

You have now downgraded your software and paid more to do that. Strange. Why would you do this?

You will quickly find that some of the editing tools that the rest of find as basic, are no longer there.

Because I didn't know I could upgrade. =) Thanks for pointing it out.

I just need the basic features of Movie Edit Pro, so I am fine.

You can still cancel you last order with MAGIX and then delete it from your pc. Then when you have a refund you could cross grade. I accidentally ordered the wrong version once and did exactly that.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray,

No need for cross-grade, the OP already has MEP Plus 2020.

@ka1n0

I strongly suggest that you follow Ray's advice or you will soon be back here complaining about not having certain editing tools that most of us find indispensable.
