Movie Edit Pro Mx, Movie Edit Pro 14 does not establish connection with video card

Movie Edit Pro Mx 18 & Movie Edit Pro 14 does not find VHS player via Winfast DTV 1000 s card with Windows 8 Installed. However another Video Edit program Movie Plusx6 does  established connection, this is not the only similar editing program that does similar - all reconize the VCR player via the card.

Magix programs both with latest upgrade/fixes, likewise the Winfast card

Both Magix programs fail to see VCR player - with W8 installed

Hi,

I am pretty sure (but not 100%) that MEP 14 likely will not function completely with Windows 8.  However, MEP Mx 18 should work fine.  How are you going about trying to capture the video from your video card?  When you press the "record" button in MEP, what exactly does it say?  You sound like someone who is trying to get a very high quality production, and I have looked at Movie Plus X6 by Serif.  It looks OK but unless you are just trying to do a basic home video, MEP is likely the way to go.  Way more flexibility, access to more add ons, great workflow  etc.  And no I don't work for Magix.  No one here works for Magix.  This is a user forum.

The only things I can think of is that you have an old driver for your Winfast card, or for some reason Mep does not recognize that particular card.  If the VCR is playing when you push the "record' button, MEP should recognise that there is a signal there.  If it won't for whatever reason, have you considered using a relatively inexpensive USB capture device.  To record VHS, you really don't need a high end video card as the VHS resolution and quality will be no better than capturing it via USB.

I had updated to Windows 8, but had so many problems with so many of my applications which were certified on 8 that I went back to windows 7, and have no problems at all.

I hope that johnebaker chimes in on this as he has had success with windows 8 and actually likes it.

Hi

I do not think this is a Windows 8 issue .

MEP does not see my Happauge DTV USB dongle., just as your digital TV tuner is not seen.  I cannot try MEP with my old analog TV card as there are no drivers available for Win 7 or 8 and no analog TV channels available in my part of the UK..

In the case of Movie Plus X6 this may have the necessary functions to access the video/audio stream from the TV card.

As George says for video capture you need a USB video converter to work with MEP and all his comments re quality are spot on.
