Movie Edit Pro No longer installs!!!

mikefellh wrote on 5/27/2022, 11:33 AM

I had to reinstall Windows 10, and can't reinstall "Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022" from the "My Products" page. I download the installation file from "My Products", and run it, but get the message seen in "Magix error 1"...it then displays "Magix error 2" and tries installing again...and the cycle repeats over and over again with the exact same error messages! Is this an issue now that the software has been renamed to "Movie Studio"??? I also took a screenshot of the installation screen "Magix error 3" which shows a difference in filesizes.

Thank you for your reply. I followed all that AND removed the Magix entries in the Registry as well as deleting the Magix "Common Files"...exactly the same problem. I still stand by what I posted in my original post.

@mikefellh

Have you ensured that your Antivirus and Firewall are allowing the connection between your computer and the Magix servers and that Windows is not blocking access to your Documents folder?

All the above have proved to be possible reasons for the error messages you are seeing.

The apparent difference in file size could be down to the fact that the installer actually downloads multiple, separate files; the total size is the larger figure of all the files together.

Again this is a brand new Windows 10 re-installation after wiping everything out...so nothing installed in terms of antivirus or firewall except what's part of Windows 10.

I installed Movie Edit Pro Premium a few months ago on this machine without issue (but that was BEFORE the name change to "Movie Studio"), but due to an issue I had to wipe out the old installation of Windows and start from fresh.

emmrecs wrote on 5/28/2022, 1:48 PM

@mikefellh

nothing installed in terms of antivirus or firewall except what's part of Windows 10.

Which means that Windows Defender is installed and fully operational, and that has been know to cause more than a few people to experience the problem you are seeing of the interrupted download and/or corrupted installer file! You really do need to ensure it is, as far as possible, "turned off" whilst downloading and installing MEP.

The name change has absolutely no bearing on this since it is nothing more than a name change! The program Movie Studio is Movie Edit Pro.

Have you checked the settings that @johnebaker pointed you to?

Hi Mike.

Try going to Windows \ settings \ Update and Security \ Windows Security \ Firewall & network protection \ Allow an app through the firewall \ and then do the following.

That will stop Windows defender from scanning those apps although if you are running an additional antivirus program You should add the folders to the exceptions from scanning folders as well.

Can someone then please explain HOW I managed to install the software with the EXACT SAME Windows Defender SETTINGS a few months back BEFORE Magix changed "Movie Edit Pro Premium" it to "Movie Studio"?
The ONLY difference is what's changed on Magix's end. I'll try again later today when I'm at my office, but I'm telling you look at the difference in filesizes in the third screenshot I posted (not to mention the errors in the other two screen shots).
Thank you in the meantime.

@mikefellh

The program is exactly the same as you had before. As I wrote above, MEP (latest version, 21.0.2.138) = MS 2022 (latest build).

But your Windows installation may not be! I realise you say you have just reinstalled Win 10 but there is every likelihood that your "new" Win 10 will include all sorts of "additional features" that MS is certain you need, even if you are not so certain! Inevitably, whatever build and updates of Win 10 you had before the reinstallation will have been superceded by the latest ones that MS has given you!

Please try the suggestions that @CubeAce and @johnebaker have given you; your problem is almost 100% definitely one of file access and permissions in your security settings.

As to the file size differences, did you read what I wrote in my earlier reply about there apparently being multiple files to be downloaded?

I don't believe this is caused by Windows. There have been a spate of installation dramas recently. There is only one installation file for MEP 2022 (assume MS is about the same): 969mb. I have it here. Those file sizes shown don't make sense.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if the recent installation dramas were introduced (coincidentally) when Magix changed the program name from Movie Edit Pro to Movie Studio.

I'd hop onto Magix Support and have a go at them. If, indeed, Windows is blocking the installation, that is purely the fault of Magix. I have never had Windows block a program I've tried to install. Avast did a few times; I uninstalled it. Especially for a "main stream" program like something from Magix, it should be programmed so this doesn't happen.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Hi Al.

Does your system have a TPM module either build in or as a separate board?

Mine does and I had never switched it on. It was really bought and installed ready for when I eventually switch to Win 11. However at some point (I don't know when) it has been switched on by a Windows 10 update. It has not enabled bit-locker but has become active and I do need those folders added to Windows Defender.

This of course may be system dependent but I personally would not rule it out.

Ray.

Motherboard's 12 years old. In any case, IMO that's not relevant. A mainstream program shouldn't require fiddling with Windows to get it installed.

Hi Alwyn

. . . . If, indeed, Windows is blocking the installation, that is purely the fault of Magix. I have never had Windows block a program I've tried to install. Avast did a few times;  . . . .

Windows Defender, like Avast did, detects false positives. I too switched from Avast to Defender on my PC and had the same issue with file size differences, though with a different Magix program, disabling Defender temporarily, allowed the full file to be downloaded and installed.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray

. . . . Does your system have a TPM module either build in or as a separate board? . . . It has not enabled bit-locker but has become active and I do need those folders added to Windows Defender. . . . .

The TPM module is turned on automatically by Windows when you add a TPM module to the motherboard and is necessary to install Windows 11 on PC's which do not have an Intel processor that has TPM 2 support built in to the Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT) feature,.

The TPM feature is used for securing the hard drive as well as adding extra hardware and software security, this is not done automatically and has no function preventing installation of Windows 10.

Having to put exceptions in Defender is likely due to an update making changes in the Folder Protection feature and the Heuristic detection feature.

OK...I tried EVERY suggestion above, and NOTHING WORKED!

So for the heck of it I tried installing "Movie Studio 2022" instead of "Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022", and "Movie Studio 2022" installed and runs PERFECTLY WITHOUT ISSUE, I just can't activate it!!!

So I repeat, THE FAULT IS WITH MAGIX WITH THE CHANGE OF SOFTWARE, NOT MY COMPUTER OR WINDOWS!

Attached is the installation screen for "Movie Studio 2022" and note the file sizes ARE THE SAME, UNLIKE the installation screen I posted in my opening post for "Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022".

I want Magix to upgrade me to "Movie Studio 2022" for FREE, or fix the issue! And yes, I tried to install "Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022" again after I had installed "Movie Studio 2022"!
