Movie Edit PRO update error

blvigh wrote on 3/12/2022, 11:24 AM

Tried to update Magix Movie Edit PRO with software 20.0.1.73. After severeal attempts I always got the error message: "An unexpected error was encountered. The installation couldn't be successfully finished." Download is finished, but installation always failed.

In the meantime in Help menu / About I see that current the program version is 20. 0.1.73. (UDP3)

So is the update complete or not?

Hi.

The initial version of Movie Edit Pro 2021 was version was 20.0.1.65 so you are more updated than that.

What the final version of MEP 2021 was before MEP 2022 came out I can't remember.

If the program is launching and showing 20.0.1.73 and can be used, then I would assume you have that update.

If you have re-installed the program you may not have the last update that was available for the program as you tend to get the released version of the program at the time of purchase rather than any update you may have had during your one year update period from the date of purchase.

Ray.

The final version of MEP 2021 was 20.0.1.80.

Any update from now on will be to MEP 2022 if you still have a valid update service.

If there are no other suggestions, I would suggest you go to your My Products page on Magix.com (log in first), then go through the motions of installing MEP again. If you're not eligible for MEP 2022, you'll get the latest version of MEP 2021 (which should be version 80).

Run the initial install file (the 6mb one) and a box showing what is about to be installed will pop up:

This shows MEP 2022. Yours will either show this or version 20.0.1.80 ie MEP 2021. If it says 21.0.2.130, I don't think you're going to be able to get that 80 patch for MEP 2021.

You can then cancel the install and stay at your current patch level, or if 21.0.2.130is shown, update to MEP 2022.

For my use, the only significant bug that MEP 2022 (technically now Movie Studio 2022) has is the Section effect resetting itself. It can be worked-around but is annoying. MEP 2022 has more speed if you have a late model graphics card (GPU) and/or Intel iGPU embedded in the CPU.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. Ray, that appears to be no longer the case. If one attempts to install MEP from the Magix My Product page, you will get the latest version, fully patched (as shown in my screenshot above).

It seems that they have listened to us.

Ray, why, when the current posted install file is at patch 130, would they only allow me to access the original version (85) if I need to re-install when I'm past the 12 month limit? Do you really think that they have set up a monitoring system so that when one goes over 12 months, they revert the installation file back to the original version?

I really don't know Al. I only go on what people have reported in the past. I have never been in that position myself to find out. I'm not saying the original version either but including the patches that the version had at the time of purchase. That is easily identifiable as the purchase date point.

I have never even tried re-installing MEP 2018 which still shows on my my account as being able to download. Now I have effectively bought VPX 12 through Humble bundle as well it also shows VPX 11 as a separately registered program from VPX 12. So one presumes I could roll back to either VPX 11 or MEP 2018.

As VPX 11 and VPX 12 programs are offered at the end of their upgrade paths, that is the version that can be downloaded from the site when it is registered as a new purchase with all the patches included.

However MEP 2022 was bought via the upgrade path since I 'bought' MEP 2020. So no previous versions (2020 or 2021) are available to me to roll back to even though I had them and I have 'upgraded' MEP 2022 twice now, purely for the ProDad Hide third party offering and the new TotalFX package. So effectively losing previous months of my other registrations in favour of gaining those plugins. That may have been a mistake as from a personal viewpoint the Infusion Engine One was for me the best stable version which I can't re-install or roll back to. It's one reason I keep VPX one version behind.
