Hi,

Select the video to highlight it. Trim it with the razor blade or by pressing T at the location of the playback marker. Then you can delete the part in front by pressing Ctrl+del, which also closes up the gap. Or at the location of the playback marker press Z to delete the part to the left (just the currently selected clip) or U to delete the part of the clip after the playback marker. In both cases, the gap is closed up. There is a little arrow to the right of the razor blade. Click on it and you will see these commands.

You can also define a range before importing while viewing the source clip in the monitor. Click on the left bracket where you want the clip to start and the right bracket at the end, then drag and drop the image in the monitor onto the timeline.

I suggest that you review editing and trimming in the manual. This is about the most basic editing command that there is and you will be quickly stuck if you don't read the manual.

Enjoy!
