Movie has no sound

storrme2 wrote on 1/10/2014, 10:07 PM

I am working on a project and it has no sound, I am sure I hit something somewhere to mute the film because every other project I have has sound. I can not find a similar situation on the boards anywhere. I am unable to figure out what I did and I have added several pictures and text to the project. I tried to reimport the video files and as soon as I pull them down from the file location they lose thier sound as well. Please help

Hi,

As you say you've thoroughly researched this problem I expect you've already tried the following, but please confirm.

I assume you do get sound from other programs and your OS (e.g Windows startup fanfare etc)? If not, then obviously you need to look elsewhere!

Assuming it's only MEP (you haven't told us what version) then:

1. Check that the small MUTE button hasn't been set.

2. Check for program updates in the Help menu (even for a trial version).

3 Check that you have enabled File > Settings > Program > Video/Audio > Import video with sound

4. Establish the sample frequency/rate of your files using either of the free programs MediaInfo or GSpot and check that number matches MEP's settings in File > Settings > Movie. Sometimes the file is 41000 Hz but MEP typically expects 48000 and a mis-match can result in either out-of-sync audio or even total loss.

5. Does your computer have the required codecs? With GSpot, use the buttons bottom left (MS A/V etc).  This will help you to tell if the correct codecs are installed. Come back if, as I do, you have difficulty interpreting the GSpot messages.

Please report back.

Terry thank you for your response, I am using MEP 17.

1. I did check this and it is not on

2. I checked for updates, none

3. There is not an option that is specificly import video with sound. There is an option that states extract sound from files that is checked. I don't think that it is a program setting as this is the only project without sound. Every other project I load is fine.

4. I did check frequency and they are all 48000

5. I am not sure nor do I have gspot but again since this is the only project without sound I think that there is something I did to it.

Looks like the project is corrupted. I'd try:

1. Use File > Manage movies > New to create a new empty movie, keeping the original open. Copy the original and paste to the new and see if that works K.

2. If that fails try File > Manage movies > Export and then File > Manage movies > Import

3. If both fail look for up to 10 automatic backups (assuming you didn't switch off that option in File > Settings > Program) i.e. one in the sequence Projectname_BAKn.MV_ where n is 1, 2,...0.
Start with the most recent and work back (0, 9, 8...) to see if there are any which are OK, so that at least you'll know the extent of the damage that may have to be redone.

4. Failing that, successively roughly halve the size of the project, saving methodically, to isolate the cause of the trouble.
