Movie Studio 2022 Update - Menus have gone - help!

Jon-Smith-Moorhouse wrote on 4/16/2022, 4:08 PM

Hi folks,

I purchased movie studio to go on my new laptop of my older Vegas Pro 17 was single machine licensed to my desktop. As soon as it installed it insisted on an update which has removed all menus from the top of the screen and locked it over to the left half of the monitor. The lack of menus means I can't do anything like file>save or adjust any settings, or use my full screen. Am I missing something obvious? Sorry if its a really noob question but I am so confused right now!

Thanks

A complete newbie to Movie Studio

Hi John, and welcome to the user to user forums.

First try pressing F9 and see if that resets the program. (With the program open first)

If not can you give us a screen shot of the open program using 'Print Screen' and saving it in paint or similar as a JPEG and then posting it here using the blue upload button in the reply section (Write something box below) next to the blue smiley face?

Ray.

Panic over folks! While getting no joy with google searches, I got frustrated and stared moving the windows around loads to see if I could re sync them somehow and found the 'shell' of the main programme hiding behind one of them and was able to drag it over enough to select window>window arrangement>Standard (it doesn't seem to have any other options?!) and it pulled it all back into one coherent programme again. It was a really weird 'setting' though - anyone know why it defaults to what ever that is and/or what causes it?

Thanks again

I had tried F9 to no avail - it didn't seem to do anything. Essentially what I had was the video preview window, the import/effects etc window, and the timeline window as individual blocks I could work on but not the main shell - it had somehow been dislocated from the rest and was hiding around behind them (but smaller than the sum of the other windows so was completely obscured). Only one of the windows was 'moveable' on the screen which is how I found the shell lurking behind, while one was moving with the shell and one was locked in situ - all seem to be behaving now. Thanks for the super quick reply! :)

Hi

. . . . It was a really weird 'setting' though - anyone know why it defaults to what ever that is and/or what causes it? . . . .

There most common causes, both relate to the monitor resolution and a Windows setting.

  • The laptop screen resolution is smaller than 1920 x 1080 and causes the panes to be too large

  • The screen resolution is greater than 1920 x 1080 eg 4K and the Windows, System, Display, Scale setting is set to > 100% - this is often done because a 4K screen resolution on a laptop results in tiny text and icons when set to 100% scaling.

F9 does not revert back to the default interface arrangement, only the last used, when the program is closed after rearranging the layout.

really interest! I suspect mine is the former (it on 1920 x 1080 on Win 11). I'm guessing the update added another tab or function somewhere and it was just too big for the stock screen, and having only just installed it, there was no setting to F9 back to!

Feel prepared for if this happens again now! TY 😀
