Moving video objects moves all objects to the right of it

Simply_Simon wrote on 12/24/2021, 2:31 PM

Hello,

ever since the second-most recent update, whenever I move a video object, any object to the right of it automatically gets moved as well. This massively impacts my typical workflow, where I arrange video objects with large gaps and work on sections individually. Also, I don't like automated functions like this in general. Can this unwanted new feature be turned off somewhere?

Thank you for your help,

Simon

Your signature states “MAGIX Video Deluxe 2015”. The following applies to MEP 2022, but I am pretty sure this applied to MEP 2015 as well (it’s been a while).

Looks like you have “Mouse Mode for Single Tracks” or "Mouse Mode for All Tracks" on (Some programs call this Ripple Edit).

You probably need to enable “Mouse mode for single objects” (By default, 6 does this)

Press "6" and try again.

The program had to be specified in a dropdown menu before making the post, sorry - I assumed that was enough.

Your solution helped immediately! Thank you! Maybe it wasn't the update, but just me hitting 6 on accident.

In order to avoid further such issues in the future: where is the menu where I can enable/turn off functions like this manually, without needing to know the hotkey? I didn't find it in the main program settings (Y).

Hi

. . . . where is the menu where I can enable/turn off functions like this manually, without needing to know the hotkey? . . . .

There is not one, keyboard shortcuts are a quicker way of editing and are worth learning - there is a full list in the PDF manual available under Help in the program.

. . . . but just me hitting 6 on accident . . .

You probably hit the 8 key which enables Single track mode, 6 = single object mode and 7 = multi track mode.

If you hover the mouse over buttons you will see the shortcut key if there is one, the same goes for items in the menus.

Right here, under the video monitor window:

The first is "single object" mouse mode: only the object that you have selected will move when dragged.

The second is "all objects on the track" mode. This is probably the one you were in. The obvious purpose of this mode is to allow you to insert an object by dragging everything to the right of the object you're moving to make a gap ie later.

The third mode is similar to the second up all objects on all tracks are selected.

The 4th is stretch mode. Have a read of the manual for that.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
