MPEG 4 Codec (MainConcept) Activation issues

Ruby1925 wrote on 2/15/2017, 5:30 PM

I installed of Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus, entered my license key, and registered the software. I waited to install all of the extra effects and templates until later. Now I installed everything and it will not accept my license number. It says I need to pay for an MPEG 4 (Main Concept) activation code. I thought that was part of the program. I'm running Windows 10 Home on an HP Spectre 360 Convertible laptop. How should I proceed? Thanks.

Which (year) version of MEP Plus?

Assuming it is one of the more recent versions I think this is normal; the MPEG-4 Main Concept codec is no longer installed automatically. Presumably because of the licensing costs involved?

I have VPX(8) and I'm pretty certain I had to do the same (purchase this codec) at a cost of less than £5GBP, so not an extortionate cost!

Right. I have the most recent version. The price is not high, true. However, there was no warning that this was coming, and capping a long download with another request for money was surprising and irritating. I've used many video programs and have never encountered such a request.

I think the point is that you can export in mp4 format without having to buy the Main Concept codec. Personally I prefer to use it but it is not "absolutely essential".

😃 Sure, understood. Thanks for the insight.

Hi

As Jeff says you can export mp4 form MEP without the MainConcept codec.

In the Program settings, Import/Export tab ensure that the two drop down dialogs on the right of the tab say Default if they do not then change them to Default, OK the dialog and restart MEP.

Note:

The laptop is below the minimum recommended specification for HD and 4k video editing however it will work, with the some limitations:

  • You may find that previewing the time-line is not smooth - see this answer for some adjustments you can make to improve this.

  • Video editing takes up a lot of disc space, especially if you use proxy files, which you may need to do to improve time-line playback

  • Use of external hard drives for video editing can cause issues with USB speed and power management.

I hope that I'm not hijacking the thread. I thought I had saved/exported a file as mp4 but the file is in the format: m2ts.

Do I need to purchase the codec or follow John's advice on the defaults.

Hi

@ fjk6515

. . . . I hope that I'm not hijacking the thread . . . .

The issue you are having is different from the thread - so a new topic should have been started.

To answer your problem - in the export dialog the top drop down has multiple options for mp4 export - in your case you did not change it from AVCHD, which is the m2ts format, to on of the required mp4 file options.

Just below the drop is a check box Display all check this and then you will see all the available export options depending on the codec you are using ie MainConcept or Default (Intel HD codec) the names will be different.
