MPG-2 codec

I have downloaded a trial version of the new Movie Studio 2023 but have not been able to use it because, every time I try bringing a clip to the media line, I get the message "Unfortunately, the function 'MPEG-2 Codec' is not available due to licensing conditions." Has anyone experienced the same problem? is there a solution? Thanks, Denis

I don't know the politics behind the licencing arrangements, but for evaluation purposes, you could transcode your MPEG file into MPEG 4 format which the MMS 2023 Trial should open. Suggested transcoders are Handbrake and AVIDemux.

In AVIDemux, make these selections:

You may lose a bit of quality but at least you'll be able to evaluate the program on your file.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

I think we should add this should only effect the trial version. The full version should cope with your files.

hi CubeAce and AAProds, appreciate the suggestions, will try and see if it works. I have been using Cyberlink PowerDirector but would like to try Movie Studio and compare to decide which of the two to use.

One other deliberate limitation of the Trial version is that Exports are restricted to a maximum of, I believe, three minutes of footage.

As with the MPEG-2 codec, purchase and registration of the software removes this limit.
