MTS audio

Purchased and installed; registered; activated MEP2014 plus. Purchased MPEG4 decoder and installed. All on HP Pavilion dv4 1220 (excellent laptop for its time IMO) around 2014.. Laptop sound disabled/died recently. Need to download and manage several videos from recent vacations from Canon Vixia HF R100 (AVCHD). Logged into my account in Magix and downloaded onto new laptop (HP ENVY x360) with Windows 10. Another good laptop.

Download fine, reinstall fine. However, it will not play audio for .mts files from video. My old version would, but when I move the clips to the timeline on my new install, there is no audio wave created. The new install will play the following OK; .mpg, .wmv, .AVI, and .MOV. However, I cannot get a single .MTS file to import audio, or play it. I have tested all the .MTS files with the laptops movie/tv player, and they play audio fine outside MEP14plus.

I've done a preliminary search of the FAQ and Forum; The download fix says there is not a compatible program to apply the fix to, so that did not help. Exporting a file does not result in a activation request, and allows AC3 preset, but only allows .iso files to be created.

I'm looking for some suggestions please. Thanks in advance.

Just a follow-up on the previous post.

Went back through forum and retried this posting about activating the expansion pack from another thread. I had looked at it earlier, but the menu options were not the same, so I did not go through with it. At this point, I decided to take a little risk. Here is what the previous post stated:

This issue is related to a Windows update, which has caused our software problems with the decoding of Dolby Digital (AC3) audio. Please use the following procedure in the program to force the activation of the necessary Dolby Digital codec:

1. Start the program and create an empty project. Import any video or photo file.
2. Click on the "File" menu => "Export movie" sub menu => "Video as MPEG video" option. (NOT MPEG4!)
3. Select the preset "Standard DVD PAL AC3" from the list, and start the export process.
4. When you're prompted to download the Dolby Digital audio extension pack, please do so.

Once you have unlocked the Dolby Digital support via this procedure, you should now also be able to import video material (e.g. AVCHD) using Dolby
Digital audio without any problems.

I hope this helps.

I went back and tried this, but my version has it a bit differently (MEP2014plus; v13.0.5.5) on how it responds and what the menu options were.

1) Start the program and create an empty project. Import any video, I recommend one with audio.

Continue with #2 as directed.

#3 is where things begin to get a bit different. My preset says "Standard DVD NTSL AC3" . The difference here is between US and EU (at least in my opinion). I'm in the US, so I used NTSL. Had to since PAL was not an option in my software or pull down menu. (This was somewhat validated next while under the 'advanced settings' option under the video tab, as PAL is the default for Europe and NTSL is the default for US and Japan.)

Next, go into the 'advanced settings' and then down to the right to the 'Audio Settings' tab. You need to ensure that you have 'Audio Type:' as AC3 and 'Mode' as Surround 5.1. These will not automatically select this even though you choose the above 'standard dvd ntsl ac3' preset and the format description says you are on AC3 with surround. At least they did not automatically change for me. I had to come here and change these or ensure they are set as described above on this audio settings tab. Press OK and the OK again on the initial menu page.

I then get a pop-up message saying 'You export is configured for surround. However, the following video is not yet ready. Please change the export settings to Stereo/Mono or activate surround for the mentioned videos in the Mixer. To do so, click "Cancel". Select 'Ignore", if you would like to configure export temporarily for stereo." There are 'Cancel' and 'Ignore' options to select. I chose 'Ignore'. Don't ask me why. I just figured I did not want to spend more time trying to find the 'Mixer' and could not remember where I saw anything about choosing 'Stereo/Mono'. I left that to chance and risk for another day.

4) The program then gave me another pop up stating the file export process would require codec I did not have and asking about the expansion pack for the needed codec that was available for free. I said yes and download did not take long. There were a few windows admin pop-ups to approve. I then continued with the program file creation process, I think I had to go back and click OK again on the main export menu.

I noticed the program started creating the file, with NO audio; 'not available'. That really hacked me off and frustrated me to no end. BUT, do not worry.

Once the export process was completed I noticed I had a whole bunch of various files in the destination folder. What the heck!!!!

Well, here is the good part. I then went back to the MEP program and opened up some of the .mts files that I was having audio problems with. I moved one of them onto the timeline and as you guessed, still no audio or audio wave. Now I was really getting cranked up!!!

However, I then right clicked on the file in the timeline, went to 'Audio Functions' and then to 'Create Waveform' , as I had seen a few utube video on and heard mentioned here some on the forum, and SHAZAM!!! There it was. Double Crackin/ Shack-a-Lackin; In fact, you don't have to create the wave form to hear the audio, just use the play symbol up in the file box to play the selected .mts file, WITH AUDIO!!!!!!!!!!.

I went back and tested the other .mpg, .wmv, .AVI and .MOV files and all audio is good.

Started on this item yesterday and spent 5 hours yesterday. Started again at 0930 this morning and just finished at 1700. I feel real good and need a beer.

I hope this helps someone.
