music maker crashes when I try to record audio

When I hit the "record" button to add vocals, the program crashes. How can I fix this?

Windows 8 (64)

AMD 3.6 GHz

6 GB RAM

Music Maker 2013 version 19.0.5.57 (UDC1)

Go get a real big hammer.....actually we need more information....first track ? last track ? how many tracks ? what happens during crash ? blue screen? total meltdown ? smoke coming from PC ? R U smoking ?
