Music Studio 2020 won't open VST instrument

martin-leisborn wrote on 1/15/2021, 5:53 AM

I have Music Studio 2020 and it has been working fine before. Today it will not open any vst instrument. Even if I open an existing project that was working fine before. The program opens but when I try to start an instrument an error message comes up saying: "cannot read file! location might be read only or the disk ist full or the filepath is invalid." followed by file/folder name...

Any tips? I deleted and reinstalled Music maker and rebooted but it didn't help.

@martin-leisborn Has the VST path changed in the program settings? What happens if you start Music Studio as administrator (you can start it as administrator by right clicking on the program icon)? Maybe there was a Windows update that changed the security settings of your VST folder so Music Studio cannot access it anymore.

Thanks for quick reply! I don't know if the VST path has changed. If I start as administrator the program starts but when trying to start and instrument the progrma doesn't find the wave files.

Do you thing the instruments need to be reinstalled?

Hi

. . . . Music Studio 2020 . . . . .  reinstalled Music maker . . . .

These are 2 different programs - I assume the program you are having trouble with is Music Maker as:

  1. Music Studio - the full name is Acid Music Studio and is currently version 11

  2. Music Makers previous version is 2020, the current version is 2021

Check the version number of Music Maker if it is 29.0.5.29 then see this comment for more information and resolution - ignore references to the F: drive this is specific to the OP in the linked to topic.

Oh sorry about that. It’s Samplitude Music Studio 2020. Not Music Maker.
I’ll try your suggestion. Thanks again.

Hi

. . . . Samplitude Music Studio 2020 . . . . "cannot read file! location might be read only or the disk ist full or the filepath is invalid." followed by file/folder name . . .

Check that your Antivirus Folder protection/Ransomeware feature is not protecting the path in the error message and blocking SMS from accessing it.

I also cannot open some* VST. It shows a blank window where the VST should be.

@Goyo-Martin This could be a graphics driver problem. Are your drivers up to date?

The VST opens just fine in other DAWs... and yes, they are up to date.

@Goyo-Martin Ok, sadly I have no other idea.

You can check your drivers with software like Snappy Driver. https://sdi-tool.org If you try this out, just be sure to make a backup of everything before updating your drivers with a tool like this.
