Hi,

You have to increase the track height to be able to see the name box. Click on the Maximize track height button in the track header.

Hi

You only need to set the tracks to the Default height and there is sufficient room for naming while keeping the track height at a minimum to see the name as shown below.

Hi

I also am running MEP 2020 (latest version), and my monitors from which the screen grab was taken are 24 inch,1920 x 1080 px.

As you can see from the full screen image of my left monitor below this is the default layout I use, and from which the track height above was taken - the right monitor is the Preview Monitor full screen.

maybe i need to take contact to support?

browj2 wrote on 8/30/2019, 10:51 AM

@johnebaker

I don't have 2020, but I checked 2019 and VPX. I only get the space for the name if there is nothing on the track. Add something to one of your tracks that has a name and you'll see that that space is taken up by the buttons and you no longer see the name. The only way to then see the track name is to increase the height of the track.

Hi

To add to @browj2 comment, good point John, the track height can be adjusted manually and then you can set all tracks to the same height - the tracks are then slightly smaller than the 'Big' option..

. . . . I also have 2x 24 "screens . . . .

Do you use the same layout as me, or have the Track pane maximised fully on one screen with all the other panes on the other, eg as shown in the example below?

I suggest raising a ticket with Magix to request an addition to the default Windows that would keep the track heights, or at least a default setting of some kind that would set track heights that include the track name.

Note that you can set the height of the first track (in the popdown of the track header) with something on it and then set all tracks to be adjusted to the same height.

One thing to remember is that most users likely don't use the track name field and prefer the default the way it is now, so that should not be messed with. Increasing the height of all tracks takes up valuable screen space.

Yes, I never use the name feature, partly because of the height issue but mainly because most of my larger projects rapidly lose 'track name consistency'. All it takes are a few extra narratives, collages, symbols, etc, and about the only track that retains any sort of identity is track 1!

One compromise could be to temporarily add text objects at the start. And perhaps copied to wherever on the timeline you're currently working, to avoid tapping the Home key to see a reminder.

Of course, there's also the option of writing the names neatly onto a piece of conveniently displayed card ๐Ÿ˜‰

It's interesting to see how people use their layouts.

The only thing I would like added to MEP is the ability to resize things like the audio mixer.

Here is a screen shot of the setup in VPX that I use the most. As you can see, most of us use two screens.

I don't usually have the instruments turned on, only when doing colour adjustment.

To reply to your question about VPX vs MEP Premium, VPX has a separate source monitor, measuring instruments and a Project Temp Folder, amongst some other things that most users probably would not need, like more buttons in the track header (separate audio and video muting), Multi-language tracks and 9 cameras for multi-cam. I use the Project Temp Folder and the measuring instruments a lot.

@CubeAce

Any reason why you don't have the Media Pool full height?

Hi John.

The left-hand side of my screen gets pushed and pulled around as needed. It's a general rather than a specific layout that I have when opening a project. I do like to have the right side track layout as large as possible at all times though.

The gap under allows popups from email alerts to show while I'm editing without obscuring workflow. Some emails need answering sooner than later while others I can ignore ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Alas, unlike my phone where I can assign different music to different clients I can't do that on my PC.
