Has anyone noticed that the "new" MEP versions -- which don't seem to have a name -- have gone back to proDAD MercalliV2 image stablization? Can't help but wonder why.
V4 does not come with VPX8 either. I seem to recall asking Magix about this and the answer was that the programmers might include it later. I am far from home so I can't check if V4 shows up due to being already installed in the previous version. I installed VPX8 on my new Surface Pro 4 before leaving and I don't have any previous versions loaded so I am missing many plugins that show up on my home computer. Annoying that.
In your case, do you have V4 from MEP2016 Premium. Does it show up in the new MEP Premium (2017)?
We have not received any new features yet under this new 365 update system. I am hoping that Magix will soon release an update for VPX with the new features that are in the new MEP. I decided not to upgrade MEP anymore as I have VPX and the new features should show up much quicker than before.
The Prodad Mercalli 4 is only available in the Premium version of the new MEP.
If you have the Premium version did you install the Additional programs?
The name change was announced with the release of the new version - often referred to as MEP 2017 or more rarely MEP 365 - and change in licence type. There will be no new version releases - see this article for more information.
I see no sign of V4 in the Magix.com publicity for either MEP or VPX. Check the downloaded files to see if there is one for V4. I didn't see one for VPX, I don't think.
The Intermittent (internet) is working in my hotel room finally, probably for a little while. I just checked the order confirmations and there was no sign of V4 mentioned for VPX8, but there was a serial number that came with 2016 Premium. I also checked the downloads in VPX8 and there is no proDAD anything. But I do have V2 in the menu. So we may have obtained V4 with a previous version and it still works.
Just checked VPX7 and V4 was included along with more NewBlue things.
I may have to install some older products just to get the add-ons, something that I don't want to do on my Surface Pro 4 due to limited disk space.
Hi Browj2. After reading about the 2017 upgrade, and having no use for the two new plug-ins, and seeing no other new features in any of the 2017 versions, I'm not planning on upgrading. I was hoping for some fixes in the Title window (esp. the text size vertical slidebar which I find very difficult to control), but I didn't read anything on the Magix webpage.

What's Surface Pro and 365?
Kami
Hi Kami,
I already have the full version of Vasco da Gama, so I don’t need another one. I also have the New Blue Titler Exprees from a previous version, I presume that it's the same, so this would be redundant for me.
Surface Pros are notebook computers made by Microsoft. You can handwrite on it and use it like a tablet. Comes with Windows 10. I wanted something powerful and small for traveling.
Mercalli version 4 came for me as a (free) add-on when I bought VPX 8/365. I never had VPX 6 or 7 (because my OS was still 32 bit), or any version of MEP since MX. In fact I've just checked the invoice/email from when I bought VPX 8 and it's definitely listed there, with its serial number. So, whether it had been previously offered with an earlier version I would doubt; after all, why offer it as a "bonus" for upgrading to VPX 8 if it had already been available with an earlier version?
. . . . I wonder how this forum going to handle "No more version release names and numbers," . . . .
The program name will not change however the software version number will continue to change as patches are applied to the program.
As is already done in the forum we will refer to the patch version number to distinguish which 'level' of program users are at.
@ Jeff - re Mercalli 4 - thanks for confirming what I thought but was not quite so sure about - not old age just so much going on getting ready for our holiday..
Thanks Browj and John. I read thru the other forum. Both of you and others have asked very qood questions. But I now understand the subscription service. Magix reference "new update guarantee" doesn't explain at all.
I would definitely wait till the questions are addressed, e.g., what happens when you get a new computer .... OR if your computer crashes and you have to re-install the OS and all the software!
I also understand now about using the version numbers on this forum.
Magix told me a while back that Prodad have made the V4 and Cmos plugins specific to a Magix version ie a plug-in might still be picked up by another host program, but the serial number won't be accepted.
They came with their own serials for MEP2016 and VPX7 but VPX8 did not come with or require a new serial to work on my machine.
Mercalli V2 has been a "standard" feature of MEP/VPX since MEP2016/ VPX7.
I just checked back, double-checked, my VPX8 confirmation email from Magix. It is sparse. All that is there is the VPX download link and serial number, and the pdf file link, nothing else. I checked to the end.
@Peter,
I will need to take this up with Magix if there is supposed to be more in the email than VPX. You have Mercalli V4 and serial number. Anything else?
I managed to get the X off of the NewBlue effects by logging in to the NewBlue popup. Was there anything in the email about NewBlue?
Since I am far from home, I can't access what is on my home computer to see what works in VPX8 and what doesn't.
I've just "upgraded" from Movie Edit Pro V16 to Movie Edit Pro 17 and whilst the Prodad Mercalli V4 and Cmos Fixr are under the effects tab they needed activation.
I naively thought that the activation code from V16 would work, but no. The official answer from Magix was -
The licences of the CMOS Fixr and Mercalli V4 only cover programs which already come with Mercalli V4.
Every year we offer different third party patents.
These are currently:
Video deluxe Premium: Vasco da Gama 9 Essential & NewBlue Titler Pro Express
Video Pro X: NewBlue Looks
We understand that the needs of each of our customers are different and we strive our best to help.
Included with the software is ProDAD Mercalli V2, along with the above mentioned plugins.
The only way to solve the problem was to buy a licence from ProDad for the plugin, which is what I have done. They are offering 20% off at the moment but I don't know for how long.
The only positive thing to come out of this, I hope, is that my activation should work with future versions of Movie Edit Pro and Mercalli 4 is far superior to Mercalli 2!
I'm not sure that I follow you. First, I assume that you are talking about 2016 and 2017, not 16 and 17, but please use the correct title as there was a version 17 and it is old. Also, which flavour - basic, Plus or Premium?
If you purchased 2016 Premium and activate proDAD Mercalli V4, it should still show up under MEP 2017, as far as I know. I have VPX7 which came with V4 and VPX8 which did not (some users got it, but I did not - I have VPX8 installed on a new machine and there is no Mercalli V4, only V2). Everything that I had installed from previous versions showed up in VPX8, including Mercalli V4.
Did you uninstall 2016 Premium (assuming that you had it)?
Magix told me a while back that Prodad have made the V4 and Cmos plugins specific to a Magix version ie a plug-in might still be picked up by another host program, but the serial number won't be accepted.
This appears to still be the case as I have just installed MEP2017 and whilst V4 is available and works, it is watermarked and it would require a new serial number to remove that.

The interesting thing here is that there are no longer going to be new versions of MEP/VPX with the advent of the 365 model, so everything you now get as additional content should keep going forever.........hmmm!
