Newbie to Movie Edit Pro 2015

Hi,

My only previous experience with Magix is an old version of Music Cleaning Lab #3.  I have been using it for many years now.

I am 74 years old and thought of purchasing the excellent offer Magix made some time ago ; it actually is a package of Movie Edit Pro, Photo Manager and Cleaning Lab 14.  The pc I was using is old and the operating system is windows xp.  So I want to start anew and would appreciate your advise on what kind of equipment I should purchase.  Just basic stuff, not too fancy for home use and also because of budget.

As a suggestion I would  be delighted to know what you use,  including programs, gadgets, video and sound cards... everything you would think I need to start.   What I am planning to do is purchase the minimum at first and then adding up things as budget allows.

Thank you very much in advance for your advise

Hi José,

Selecting a computer depends on many factors and this has been discussed in this forum several times. Here is a link to a recent suggestion by our guru John Baker.

I also suggest gettig a high resolution 27inch screen. Our eyesight is not getting better.

As for programs, we usually suggest getting the Plus or Premium version of Movie Edit Pro rather than the basic version, as you quickly run into limitations.

To help suggest other programs, what are you intending to do? Do you have a lot of video files, photos, audio recordings that you want to edit and export or put on DVD's?

Hi John,

Thank you very much for your answer.

I do not have too much material at the moment.  What I am thinking of is to gather material from family and friends and make small. family oriented videos.   I do have four grandchildren and several grandnephews and nieces and every once in a while I get videos of them sent by their parents.  I want to use that material and make small videos with audio recordings, background music and graphic effects and give these as presents on special occasions.

That is just about it.  I am retired so this could be an excellent opportunity to be busy and enjoy it.

Many thanks again

José

Hi

There is no need to spend a lot of money on a graphics card with a composite input to capture with.

You can use a USB Video Capture device which will convert the video and audio to digital for capturing with MEP 2015.  See the Analog video recording section of the installed PDF manual (p86 for the Premium version)

There are many makes and models to choose from - one of the popular brands is Terratec, however there are many others.

Note - make sure you get one that does not pass the audio through to the audio card for capturing - they cause lags and are not worth the effort required to use.

Hi John EB

Thank you very much for your advise.  I checked Terratec and found all kinds of accessories especially those that convert analog to digital.

I was using one similar to one of Terratec´s , the most simple one,  made in China but it started to fail.  It did not capture video only audio so I thought of improving acquiring a video card that could substitute it.  I must admit I was wrong..

Please allow me to ask you a couple of questions.  My original post was meant to have an idea as to what to purchase as far as equipment is concerned. I found the following and would like your opinion:

Intel processor 4G Ci5 4460 3.2 GHZ76mb;   AMD Radeon video R9 270 2GB ASUS R9270 and;  Intel ASUS Motherboard  H97-E VSR LGA1150.  Are these on the line as was suggested on your post?

Thanks and best regards

Hi

. . . . Intel processor 4G Ci5 4460 3.2 GHZ76mb;   AMD Radeon video R9 270 2GB ASUS R9270 and;  Intel ASUS Motherboard  H97-E VSR LGA1150 . . . .

This is a very similar spec processor to the one I use (i5 4470).  I use the integrated HD Graphics of the chip (4600) rather than an add on graphics card and find the performance to exceed many graphics cards.  I personally would use the money for the graphics card to increase the RAM - I recommend a minimum of 16GB for good performance.
