Hi

. . . . NewBlue Video Essentials 4 Drop Shadow crashes program . . . .

Confirmed in MEP Premium (2017) works OK in MEP 2016 using the old interface.

Can you raise a support ticket here.

Thanks

Hi, Sorry don't understand, "Confirmed in MEP Premium"? does that mean it crashes ?

Tried it in 2016, it doesn't crash the program but it does nothing.no changes to image.

I uninstalled NewBlue Video Essentials 4, restarted pc, reloaded Newblue 4, restarted pc, no change,

There's two options in the effects tree, top one written as NewBlue Video Essentials 4 Drop Shadow, this is the one that crashes the program when i click apply effect.

there's another option further done in the list that just says Drop Shadow, this opens a separate screen with a window, options & controls, it doesn't crash but it doesn't seem to do anything, press Ok & there's no change to the image.

All the other Newblue effects work fine, :/

Yes it crashes.

That is the one that works - depending on the image or video you may not see the effect, a title on a black or white background shows it at its best as shown below, you may need to alter the shadow Colour, Offset and Angle settings

@johnebaker

Works ok in VPX except that the preview in the interface does not work, making it difficult to work with.

Help says "Drop Shadow creates a drop shadow for overlays. Use this with any keying effect or animated matte for truly stunning layered looks." Take a look at the video with Help for another use. Can also be useful for putting a shadow on a PiP.

Hi

@John CB

It works in VPX here as well, however it uses the old popup interface and as you have found - no preview.

In MEP Premium it is the integrated (OFX?) interface which crashes.

Hi, I have a quick question, can I use NewblueFX essensials 3 & 4 effects in VPX6? if you know the answer thanks so I can upgrade to MEP Plus 2017 for the free plugins, I use MEP 2016 premium (with HEVC support and Mercalli V4) in combination with VPX6, I use VPX6 more though

browj2 wrote on 6/18/2017, 12:41 PM

Hi,

They work in my VPX6. Just try it out to see. In fact, the split screen effect that was problematic in VPX(9) seems to work fine in VPX6.

Hi, I upgraded MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus 2017 a couple of wks ago, so still got to learn the Newblue stuff. it loaded fine online but the drop shadow effect crashes MEP, I updated the movie program & received the new menu layout, the drop shadow effect still wouldn’t work so I tried to repair the movie program by downloading it again, it ‘repaired’ it, no changes were made to the drop shadow tho but it lost the new layout & went back to the old style. it kept telling me each time after an hr of downloading that the patch was already installed 'Repair'? it asked me with no other options, i said yes but no new layout, after that I tried to update several times, yes repair, no the X close symbol. cancel,.. with no luck,

The PC was pissing me off soooo drastic action. i tried to teach it a lesson, I wiped all traces of Magix from my pc & restored it to it’s original windows 10, I just received the back up disc as ordered this morning, thinking that this was the better way of uploading the movie program rather than on-line, I set it going, it loaded Simpliclean then got to 2-of-2 of the movie loading then paused so I left it running all afternoon, 4-5hrs later it was still at 2-of-2,

last couple of days I've been downloading, Accepting, Installing.... :(

My Magix now has the new menu layout, no unwanted crap on the PC, but the Newblue Essentials Drop Shadow - Apply Effect still crashes MEP, the Drop shadow that open on a separate interface works but is awkward to adjust as browJ says

I'm learning tho.. double click on the blue highlighted drop shadow in the keyframes area opens the drop shadow window, makes it a little easier to go back to change.

browj i did this with my logo which is on a white background, i chroma keyed that white, over- layered on top of the cyan test image + a drop shadow :) yay thank for mentioning that, what help video do you refer to? The help ? on the drop shadow window takes you to a link How-to-use-Drop-Shadow, that doesn't seem to give usefull info on using it.

Thanks all for commenting, at least i know it's not all down to me being a dick.

Former user wrote on 6/18/2017, 2:48 PM

Yeah !!!!! you'll like this, after a bit of research... open Drop shadow in the separate control window, click the ' i ' at the top, disable GPU for this product, It now works in the MEP program window :) :)

Hi

I have had a response from Magix support - the issue is reproducible and they are looking to fix this.

When a plugin does not work properly with a program or causes it to crash, the problem is usually with the plugin, not the program, so one should not start uninstalling and reinstalling the program. The best is to ask if others have the same problem and, if so, then contact the developer showing that there is a problem, as was done with some of the NB effects.

In NB, when you click on the ?, you get the screen below. Click on the video - it's hard to miss.

Hi

I find I often get crashes with New Blue effects and it is often caused by an OpenGL.dll or some other GPU related .dll so turning off the GPU acceleration would be a good option.

it kept telling me each time after an hr of downloading that the patch was already installed 'Repair'? it asked me with no other options, i said yes but no new layout, after that I tried to update several times, yes repair, no the X close symbol. cancel,.. with no luck,

We had a similar problem a while back and you noted a small uninstalling program that you linked to Microsoft, which can uninstall the Patches....
