No playback in MEP Plus, ver 18.0.1.209

The playback feature won't work on MEP.  I've used older versions of MAGIX MEP in the past.  I just purchased the latest MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus; version 18.0.1.209 (UDP3) and installed it on a new Win10 computer.  I installed it and purchased the MPEG4 codec and selected "Main concept."  I did all the MEP program updates and all Windows updates.

Here's the problem.  When I import a video (mpg, mp2, or m2ts) into a new project, it will not playback.  The Stop/Play button is stuck on Stop.  Pressing the space bar does nothing.  I can actually scroll through the entire video, so I know it's there.  I can export the videos from MEP, and they play fine. I just can't play them in MEP. How do I get the Stop/Play button to go back to Play?

I've attached a screen shot of the problem.

My computer specs are as follows-

[CPU]

cpu="Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz"

[OS]
os="Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0 64-bit"

[Memory]
memory="Available: 8,212,296 bytes, Free: 4,092,816 bytes"

[Graphics]
g1="Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 1280x1024"

[Sound]
s1="Realtek Audio (ok)"
s2="Intel(R) Display Audio (ok)"

[Browsers]
b0="Google Chrome (Version: 70.0.3538.102)"
b1="Internet Explorer (Version: 11.00.17134.1 (WinBuild.160101.0800))"

This is such a weird problem not having this basic functionality.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

First, you say you are running Windows 10, but your computer spec says Windows 8! So, is that info in the spec wrong?

Second, if you cannot achieve playback the first thing I would check, perhaps counter-intuitively, is your audio settings. Go to File>Settings>Program (shortcut Y) and the Playback tab. Ensure everything is correctly set there for your chosen audio output, either Realtek or Intel.

Then you need to check in Windows Sound settings that the sample rate is 48kHz, the standard for video, which MEP should default to.

If neither of these suggestions work, please provide screenshots showing that Playback tab and your Windows Audio settings.

Hi Jeff,

THANK YOU!! I never would have thought of checking the audio settings, but that fixed the problem. Because it is a new computer, I hadn't bothered attaching the speakers yet and that might have confused the program. Connecting the speakers and fixing the setting did the trick.

With regards to the Windows 8 spec, I don't know why the sysinfo.exe program did not pick up that I am actually on Win10.

Cheers!

Hi again.

Thanks for the feedback; glad to hear you're up and running. 😀😀

Connecting the speakers

may actually have been the solution to your problem, since Win 10 now includes "Automatic Jack Sensing" as the default, i.e. it "knows" whether or not speakers are actually connected.

With regards to the Windows 8 spec, I don't know why the sysinfo.exe program did not pick up that I am actually on Win10.

Is this an "upgrade" from Win 8, rather than a brand new install of Win 10 on a new computer? If so, I think that might explain that discrepancy.
