no playback marker for Magix Music Maker 2013 and Windows 8

I've updated both. I can hear the samples play when loaded into the song grid area, but there is no scrolling playback marker showing the current position of playback. What can I do to have a working playback marker?

I have not changed any settings in the program. This is it's behavior after a fresh install and update.
