No sound from on screen keyboard

I am on a laptop, running the soundtrack edition of Music Maker.  I have no midi equipment installed on the laptop.  I'm running Windows 7 on a 4 core A8.  The Music Maker software version is 19.0.34.7.

I have GS Wavetable Synth selected as the midi output device.  I would like to use the onscreen keyboard, as I have no midi equipment on the laptop.  I would also like to use the midi editor with the mouse to edit tunes.

The on screen keyboard produces no sound (unless using the virtual "vsti" instruments)  Nor does the midi editor produce sound while editing notes, but only during playback.

I've seen this question posted before, but could not find any answers.  Please help.

You HAVE TO use a VSTi. The virtual midi keyboard only generates code. That is, it just tells the instrument what to do. You can try loading an instrument into ms wavetable synth but you're not going to get better sounds than if you load one of the included VSTis or you can download many freely available VSTis on the web.

ms wavetable synth is a general midi software driver.  I don't think you can load anything into it.  It does however show up in the list of possible midi output devices listed on the settings window.

I've recently added a Korg Nanokeys2 keyboard, but it is only an input device.  It can't produce sounds of its own.  This only agrivates the problem for me.  I can't here what I'm playing until after I've recorded it.

I've tried a number of VSTI instruments, but they are too slow to run in realtime on my A8 based laptop when on batter power and drain the battery too fast.  I was really hoping to be able to use this for midi work, or even just composing with the midi editor and the mouse while on a laptop, but it is not very plesant using the VSTI instruments.

If this is not possible to do through a software midi decice like the MS wavetable synth, then consider it a feature request.  Thanks.

That being said, does anyone else have any ideas that would work out better for me?

To sum up, I don't get any sound if I use the MS wavetable synth as the default midi output device, until after recording (meaning I can't hear what I record) and no sound with the onscreen keyboard or midi editor.
