@dave-s

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As you will have noticed Magix Movie Studio (MMS) 18 is a very different program to the Vegas Movie Studio 17 and has different system requirements, one of which is that the graphics card must support DirectX 11.1 or later.

The GTX 7700 is a very old graphics chip and only supports up to DirectX 9c, therefore it cannot be used by MMS 18. The processor, if it is an Intel, is also unlikely to have a compatible integrated GPU if it is of a similar age to the GTX 7700 (15yrs) .

In the Program Settings, Display options tab change the video mode to Compatibility mode for Windows.

Depending on the resolution of the video you are importing, eg for FullHD 1920 x 1080 and higher, you may find the program becomes very slow.

Is this a laptop approx 14 - 15 years old?

If so then your options are limited to either reverting back to Movie Studio 17 or a new modern laptop that meets the system requirements of MMS 18. If you choose to go for a new laptop then we can give you some suggestions on what to look for before buying.

HTH
