Out of Sync: Audio Appears Ahead of Video, MEP 15 Plus

iFletcher wrote on 4/17/2015, 3:30 AM

I am using MEP 15 Plus, ver. 14.0.0.172

I downloaded a 15th Anniversary sermon from iTunes and imported it into MEP 2015 Plus. The audio is heard first, then the video catches up. Clearly out of sync, and it gets worse as the video progresses. The video is about 42 minutes in length.

The video plays perfectly in MEP 2013 Plus, Vegas Pro 12, and VLC.

When using MEP 15 Plus, at about 25 minutes into the video, the audio is about 1 second and 10 frames ahead of the video.

At the 25 minute mark, I decided to export a 10 second segment as an .mp4 file. The exported file is off.

When I import to MEP 2013 Plus it's perfect. When I export a 10 second segment using MEP 2013, it is perfect too.

Importing with Frame Table checked or unchecked doesn't correct the problem (I always deleted the .H0 and .HDP files before I re-import).

Please help!

I need someone out there who also has MEP 15 Plus to download the same file from iTunes to see if you get the same sync problem as time progresses.

Thank you!

Hmmm... I take it by the lack of response that I'm the only one with MEP 2015 Plus who has an out-of-sync issue?

Well not so, if you read back a few, you will see there is a few issues regarding this problem, I worked around the problem by using NERO to burn my disk because for whatever reason, MEP2015 Pro cant burn 2+hour projects without this problem. I could see that after an hour into the video the out of sync problem started and the further the video went the worse it got. I never got a clear answer to the problem other than other people were using 3rd party burn software to eliminate other problems. Assuming your problem is only happening after you burn a disk as it was with me, I never had the problem in the project and only other time was exporting to MP4 file as well. I made smaller clips and imported to NERO

I would not recommend any free software as it will be full of spy and malware ( OpenCandy sucks), I would recommend Nero 2015 Premium.

Hope this helps

@kodiakarts: Thanks for your reply. I'm glad that your video stays properly syncronized inside the editing software so that you can at least render out the final product to some usable form.

For me, the video and audio are out of sync, and when I render out, it is still out of sync. Not usable.

BUT, in MEP 2013+ and Vegas Pro 12, no problems. Strange.

PLEASE, can somebody download the sample video from iTunes and tell me if you get the same lagging problem?

Once again, the video plays perfectly in MEP 2013 Plus, Vegas Pro 12, and VLC, but NOT MEP 2015 Plus.

Well, I used John C.B.'s suggestion of exporting the file using .mxv format, then re-importing using said .mxv file. It took about 20 minutes for the export. Just another long step to add to my work flow:

http://www.magix.info/us/mp4-playback-issues.knowledge.1126840.html

But the lag is gone! Frustrating because I didn't have to go through this when using MEP 2013 Plus! Also, VLC and Vegas Pro 12 don't have this problem!

I wish Magix would get rid of the Mainconcept CODEC and use ffmpeg or Hand Brake's code instead.

I ran two experiments:

Experiment 1

(a) I import the *original* file (the one I downloaded from iTunes)

(b) Go to the 25 minute mark and export a short 10 second segment to .mxv

(c) Start a new project

(d) Import said .mxv file and play it inside MEP 2015 Plus. IT IS OUT OF SYNC!!!

Experiment 2

(a) I import the entire .mxv file that I created per John C.B.'s suggestion.

(b) Go to the 25 minute mark and export a short 10 second segment to .mp4

(c) Start a new project

(d) Import said .mp4 file and play it inside MEP 2015 Plus. IT IS PERFECT!!!

Interesting: It turns out that I have to export the entire 40 minute video to .mxv format and then export parts of it! I cannot use a "laggy file" and export to .mxv thinking it will correct the problem.

So truly, I must add a long export to .mxv as part of my work flow!

Aye, yi, yi. What is going on here?
