It took a while for this to click on me. You are using a trial version of MEP 14. We are looking at newer versions, in particular MEP 2014. It always helps avoid confusion by indicating the version that you are using.

It is possible that the spacebar option is not in version 14.

Trial version? You might want to upgrade.

John's right. I've just been trying and although it seems a serious omission, MEP 14 does not appear to offer any way of pausing playback with the keyboard. Neither by the obvious method of tapping the Space bar, nor any other key as far as I can see from studying the list of KB shortcuts. Well over a hundred KB shortcuts for all sorts of obscure operations - but no mention of Play, Pause or Stop!

I have a vague recollection we discussed this years ago in the old forum, but Magix deleted the entire set of archives so I can't check.

That rings a faint bell, Peter, although it's not in the list. Hopefully the OP can confirm. Otherwise I'll try it myself tomorrow.

It would also make sense because there MUST have been a way of stopping and keeping the marker in place. Space just stops and takes the marker back to its start point.

Hi

@JohnCB

. . . . It always helps avoid confusion by indicating the version that you are using. . . . .

The OP did - in the title, but as you quite rightly point out the image shows it is MEP 14 .

I agree with Peter, I also think it was (and definitely still is) the Up / Down arrows which control play / stop.

@ Terry

. . . . Space just stops and takes the marker back to its start point . . . .

Only if you do not have the option in program settings turned on, otherwise the playback marker stops at the current position.

With the option turned on it makes it easier to set I / O points - only 3 keys to press instead of 4 - spacebar toggles play / stop

@John EB,

Yup, I guess that is why I kept trying to find that parameter screen in 2014, then 2013, then MX, then 17, then noticed it was 14, which I don't have.

The OP should at least confirm which version she is using.

And the good thing about having it turned on is that it only affects the Spacebar behaviour. Returning to the start point still functions, when stopping and starting by depessing the mouse wheel.

Where did you find this option in MEP 14?

I did so this morning and confirm that the Up and Down arrow keys work in MEP 14 as they do in later versions.

Out of curiosity I just checked the MEP 2014 KB Shortcut List. That still doesn't include any mention of these. Nor the Space key for that matter.

Hi Terry

For myself I was referring to the spacebar behaviour you noted in later versions of MEP ie

. . . . Space just stops and takes the marker back to its start point. . . .

- v14 does not have this option as has been previously said.

By me, after my tests.

As far as I remember, I have always, from my very first MEP Version (2005) used the up / down arrow to start and stop at the actual position.
