Pausing a Recording

Jlad92 wrote on 1/8/2021, 12:19 PM

With Movie Edit Pro (2021), I wish to record my computer screen as I create video lectures for my class.

I know how to screen capture, but the feature I'm searching for is the ability to pause a recording, without having to end the recording and restart it. In other words, I wish to use a hotkey to temporarily stop a recording, giving me time to think, and then use a hotkey to resume the recording.

OBS has such a feature and it improves the quality of my recordings remarkably. But, if there's a pause or a workaround for Movie Edit Pro, that would like my life SO much easier!

Thanks in advance.

Hi

There is no pause function, however if continue to record in sections without closing MEP you will have a sequence of files which you can then edit together.

Do be aware that OBS recordings can cause issues - see this rather long topic on the subject.

Personally I do not use either of the above programs for screen recording, this is mentioned here in the linked to topic and does offer pause/continue. The major difference to OBS and MEP its that it is a 2 step process which puts very little load on the encoders as encoding is done after finishing recording. I have had no issues with importing the resulting files into MEP.

Thank you for the speedy and detailed response!

It's good to know that a third-party recording program will likely be necessary to suit my purposes, and thanks for the warning regarding OBS! I haven't encountered issues, yet. But, I may transition over to Screencast-o-Matic after your recommendation, if OBS gives me difficulties.

Hi

Apologies I noticed in my comment I linked to that I did not mention that Screencast-o-Matic is the paid for desktop version - it was stated in the comment I was quoting.
