Can anyone advise why my when recording with , My PC switches off midway.
Not really, not without a whole lot more information from you! Please read this post and supply ALL the information requested there, especially about your computer and the precise version and variant of MEP you have.
If you literally mean your PC shuts down completely when recording, i.e it is not simply that MEP closes, I would check very carefully that it is not overheating. Check that the cooling fans are not blocked, especially if this is a laptop.
Hi Thanks for the reply. I am running windows 7 with MEP 2013 plus.No issues in the past.
Completing all the editing for a simple video, set the animated video, go to burn, choosing disc selection for blu-ray disc, click burn all starts, midway through the burning process, the computer shuts down. There has been no change to my system since using MEP and has worked very well in the past, its just recently this event has started. All other programs work fine, no over heating etc.
I am just wondering if I should reload the software.
I have also followed details that John B suggested below, but to no avail. I feel they maybe a corruption with in MEP, but unable to find it.
"Look in the folder that contains the MVP file for the project causing the problem and if there are any files with _BAK in their name move them to a temporary folder and start MEP 2016.
If that does not work then try resetting the program to its default settings - File, Settings, Reset program settings . . . . close the program and then select Start menu, Power, Restart to reboot the computer
I still wonder whether this is related to or caused by your computer overheating. Does the shut down always occur at or around the same time/same place in the export process? Is it during the actual burn or perhaps during the process of preparing the files for burning? (Remember that both DVD and BD export requires MEP to convert your video files into the exact format required by the selected output medium.)
You also wrote in an earlier post:
Used other software for burning, that worked fine
Are you talking about burning this specific project? If so, how is it being done, since , as I indicated earlier, the raw video files must be first converted to a format suitable for the intended output before the actual disc burning can start. If your comment merely confirms that other burning software "works on your computer", a perfectly reasonable statement, unfortunately it has no relevance to the difficulty you are experiencing with MEP!😀
I will assume that the project plays perfectly on the timeline in MEP?
You've told us a little about your computer (you say you're running Win 7) but no other details, like installed RAM; hard drive type, size and free space (video exports need at least as much free space on the hard drive where the files are temporarily stored as will be used on the BD disc); CPU; GPU (if any); etc. etc., even the precise version number and variant of MEP you're using (version number can be found under Help>About).
One other thing to bear in mind: MEP 2013 is now several versions "old". There have been any number of improvements "under the hood" in later versions, any one or more of which may well be the solution to your problem.
And one other thought: how long (playing time) is the whole project?
And yet another one!!: we also know nothing about the actual format of your source video files. This could be relevant.
Thank you for your reply. I am going to change the cooling fan just for peace of mind.
I have tried various projects from fresh to make sure the one project is not corrupted. My process is to load all video content into MEP, edit and move onto burn, there I sent my intro up. I then choose Blu-ray, click the burn button, within approx. and all starts very well. 10mins into the process the computer closes down completely.
I have tried the similar procedure using fresh video footage with Nero and an older version of Serif movie plus x6, both of these burn fine.
I am running win 7 with 2gb of ram, hard drive has 75% of unused space, playing time usually 45mins. but its hard to give all details as most is hard to find and becomes quite complicated. The MEP has worked perfectly but this problem seems to have become hard to resolve.
Version MEP 2013 plus 12.0.1.4. Indeed the version is quite old, but am reluctant to pay out for an upgrade and find myself with the same issue.
I do find it hard to understand that this is the only program that is failing me.
Thank you for the extra information. I'm almost certain Serif Movieplus X6 cannot burn to BD, can the version of Nero you have? I ask because I want to be sure we are comparing like with like.
Then, I notice you have only 2GB RAM in your computer. That is really the absolute minimum that will ensure a smooth running computer, even if we assume you are almost certainly running 32 bit Win 7. I have to say I wouldn't even consider using a computer of such minimal spec. to edit video, let alone burn to BD. The process of exporting the files DOES use the computer's RAM
As to the other parts of your computer: if you find it hard to access this information I recommend you find and download the free version of Speccy. It's a nice little program that will analyse and give you full details of exactly what hardware etc. your computer has; then, if you're asked questions about your computer, simply running this simple app gives you all the information at your fingertips.
Like Jeff I would not even consider running MEP on 2GB of RAM even though this is what Magix say is the minimum in it's specifications on the website. This would in reality be only just practical with SD projects and if everything else was perfect with the computer. Magix "recommend 8GB" with HD.
