PDF Manual for Movie Edit Pro Plus 2015

Madgix wrote on 9/9/2014, 6:49 AM

Hi

While I wait to see if I get any response from Magix about my program-crashing project file, I have been sent an upgrade invitation to purchase the 2015 edition before Monday.

I've seen a few screenshots that show it may have inherited some extra track control options from Video Pro X6 and would really like to find out MORE - so, does anyone have a link to a download of the pdf manual ?

Hi,

I see that MEP 2015 has been released in the UK. Those of us on the other side of the pond have to wait for the boat to arrive.

Looking at the new features, it would seem that they enhanced the control of objects. What worries me is the completely redesigned user interface. What did they break? What did they forget? See my comments about the new AML2014 PREMIUM in the ACL forum. They forgot some buttons, like the main mouse mode button, and removed others, like scrubbing, to make the interface "less complicated."

Magix advised me this week that any 32bit plugins included as add-ons to previous versions of MEP will not work with the new 64 bit version, and to contact the manufacturers for the 64bit plugins.

Can you download and install the trial version?

Do you know what the bug-fixing policy IS ?

I can still see real-world bricks and mortar shops selling MEP 2013 and MEP 2014 brand new. My version of MEP 2013 has all the updates available but continues to manifest some minor bugs (vanishing pictures, the snapping playhead, refusal to encode when asked the first time, refusal to prerender, refusal to export to mp4) and a MAJOR issue where it closes after loading the project I've been working on all the time since I upgraded to MEP 2013 two years ago, the project that is my REASON to stick with MEP.

Does bug fixing via updates and patches for any fresh release just STOP after 12 months in the same manner that e.mail customer support ceases after 365 days ?

You can buy MEP 2013 new for twenty quid today which is astonishingly good value UNLESS/UNTIL you discover setbacks that impede or cancel out the possibility of making ANY progress with a creation. Then it seems more like a pricey demo.

I have hopes for the "completely redesigned interface" - especially after watching YouTube reviews of CyberLink PowerDirector today that showed how accessible keyframing CAN be in dedicated pop-out windows with properly separated effects on INDIVIDUAL lines.

Not keen that that rival program may force you to store copies of all of your project assets locally on the C:Drive. I love that MEP lets you store HUGE media files on dedicated EXTERNAL drives, if you want to, and doesn't get all nannyish about how you should organise those items.

Just be aware that they have hidden some controls, like the Jogwheel, by default. So check the menus for a way of reactivating these.

Pretty much although if I recall correctly there was a patch once for an earlier version of MEP that appeared after the new version came out.

BTW the german version of 2015 has had a patch already and maybe why we have taken a little longer to get our version.

I'd echo Peter's Yes to that. And add that only a minority of the bugs in 2014 that I've reported have been fixed anyway. Some have been present in other versions for years and have survived each new release!

Are bugs more scarce in the first place or more thoroughly dealt with in Magix's professional line of products ? Has Video Pro X6 been well received ? Is it also on an annual refresh rota ???

VPX6 has its share of problems. Many have been reported but no patch for 6 months now. Take a look at the VPX discussions and the Q&A's to see more.

I listed the problems that I found. The main one is the multi-language tracks. Everything works up until burning, and then the parameters (as per the manual) to put this onto a DVD are not there. Nothing. Magix is working on the patch and cannot give an issue date.

There are not many features in this more expensive program that are not in MEP. Take a look at the features on the Magix site to see the difference. If you don't need the multi-language capability, the measuring instruments, 9 camera multi-cam, and a few other bells and whistles, I can't see the point of going to X6, especially now that MEP2015 has 64bit capability.

Hi

. . . . Are bugs more scarce in the first place . . . .

Not necessarily - there are many software programs which are released with more bugs then Magix software and some with less.  Due to the complexity of modern software it is very rare that a program is released that is bug free.

As an example - a certain well known player, which you would expect to be well tested and bug free given the size of the company, often updates as much as 2 or 3 times per week, recently it was updating almost daily for a short period

Similarly debugging software can be a lengthy / difficult process because

  1. the error is difficult to replicate

  2. the error is easily replicated but the actual interaction that caused it is difficult to trace

  3. the error may not be a result of an issue with the program but an unexpected 'feature' of the Windows OS - eg in the way Windows deals with hardware, certain combinations of which lead to unexpected results.

HTH
