Personal email address in ENGINEER meta data field !

Duncan-Dettmer wrote on 5/3/2025, 2:26 AM

I've just noticed that my personal email address is in the ENGINEER meta data field!
How do i stop this being encoded into my files.
How do I remove this.
This is probably illegal as it breaks privacy laws in the UK.

Its definitely Sound Forge adding this. If you create a blank file, synthesis a tone, save as wav with meta data. The field is present with my personal email. I am not happy about this.

@Duncan-Dettmer Open the metadata windows under View > Metadata and remove your personal information there before export.

@Duncan-Dettmer

HI

. . . . Its definitely Sound Forge adding this. . . .

It is, however this only occurs after the Metadata options in the export dialog have been filled in manually, by default SF export metadata is blank, as shown in the image below, image captured after a new install..

From the Metadata you have posted it would appear that this is the metadata of a file from the CD ripping software dBpower amp, check this is not the culprit.

I have never filled in any metadata fields. Its not from DBPowerAmp

These screen shots are from a brand new wav file created by sound forge.

The fault is with Soundforge.

In the "View> Meta Data, menu, confirm the fields you do not want (Summery, Engineer, ect.) are not checked. I just checked SFP-18 on my Win 10 PC, and it does not write MetaData text to the file when the field(s) are not selected.
Alternately, You can disable "Save Metadata with file" in the 'Save' or 'Save as' window.

If nothing else helps.. including a 'Clear cache and Reset', uninstall / reinstall using a third-party uninstaller like 'Revo Uninstall' that can remove left-over registry entries and other pertinent data the OS uninstall leaves behind, which can cause issues to reoccur.. Revo Uninstall has a pro and freeware versions. The free version is adequate in most cases,

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Duncan-Dettmer.

My Windows install is fresh, only a month old. No old versions to remove/dirty the current SF install.

On the fresh file in SF, before I save it, the meta data panel shows my email in the engineer field. So its there somewhere in the software. Obviously I used my email when the software was registered.
