pieces cut out of a track unfortunately remain linked together

Hey everyone :-)

for some mysterious reason, the pieces i cut out of a track remain linked together.

So, if i cut a piece out of a track and proceed to move it, the rest of the track moves with it.

This is a problem, because i would like to make a film out of different pieces of different tracks, and therefore move the pieces around freely.

Also, when i edit out a piece of the track, the rest of the track moves into the gap where the piece i cut out and removed used to be.

This is unhelpful, because i would like to have the gaps stay, to show where i cut out the pieces.

Just a few weeks ago, i didn't have this problem. Everything stayed put, and only that moved, which i grabbed and moved.

I hope this is still possible?

Does anybody know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance :-)

Kate

@kate-m Hi, I think you need to choose a different mouse mode from the top of the timeline, the first one just moves individual pieces, the second moves all after the one you grab but only on that track, & the third moves all pieces after the one you grab on all tracks,

These movements apply when you cut & remove pieces. the first mouse mode nothing moves when you delete, the second mouse mode will close the gap left when you delete but only on that track, & the third mouse mode will close the gap left by the delete by moving everything after the one you delete

Hi Kate.

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you are saying or seeing.

To cut and move or cut and delete a section of a clip I place the cursor at the exact beginning of the section I want to move or delete and press "T". I repeat this action for the exact end of the clip. Now this section between the cuts is a separate video object and I can then by highlighting the clip either delete it (by pressing the Del key), which leaves a gap in the timeline; or I can press Ctrl+Del which removes the cut section and closes the gap; or I can move just the cut section to wherever I want it to be placed.

Do these actions not work for you?

By the way, exactly which version of MS do you have?
