My 'play' pause' rewind' fast forward' area has completely disappeared!! What canI do???

Do you mean the whole preview monitor has disappeared?
If so I suspect you have turned it off:
- try pressing Shift + V
if that does not work
- try selecting Window, Windows arrangement, Standard
if that does not work
- Press F9 to do a complete reset of the windows arrangement

Yes, I've managed to resolve it now, by uninstalling everything, but now have a new problem, the orange marker doesn't correspond with the photo that is shown in the mini screen, it's all mixed up!! Thank you for answering me, John

Try doing a program reset - File, Settings, Reset . . . . .
Re-installing should be the last resort when all other avenues have failed, resetting the program, windows arrangement or some of the parameters in the program settings or in the case of a specific audio issue a patch will fix most issues.
Hopefully the reset will fix the issue - if not please come back.
