Playback of video always starts from beginning

siegbrunn wrote on 11/20/2017, 7:36 AM

That's it. I've used MEP for years and never had this.This is when I use the space bar OR when I use the direct start control arrow under the monitor. BTW the main "marker" with triangle on the top stays where it is. Just the playback line flips back to the start.

I found an old post with this problem but it never seems to have been solved. Is it possible I've set something wrong again?

I've had this very occasionally and always cured it by saving, shutting down and booting up again.

Don't know why it does it though!

Thanks RogerGunkel. I'd closed the program a couple of times, but not the PC yet. I'll do that now.

siegbrunn wrote on 11/20/2017, 9:51 AM

Sorry, it didn't help. This is really serious now. It really makes it impossible to work. I have a concert with 25 songs of so to edit and every time I try to play back what I've done (fade-out, audio edit, video edit, etc) it goes back to the beginning.
Anybody else got an idea? Before I tear my hair out?

@siegbrunn

Sounds like a corrupt project.

Try doing a Save as with a new revision number appended or different name. Then Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+C, click on the new movie button (+) to add a movie, Ctrl+V to paste. Now try playing back that movie. If it works, delete the old movie and save. Copy-paste will bring in everything, effects and all, but probably not chapters or other markers.

Failing that, open a recent backup file and try that, assuming that you did not turn off automatic backups.

Good luck,

I am silly with delight. I tried to follow your instructions and had it pretty much right but still don't know exactly how I did it (overlooked the "+"). I tried to make a "New" project. and did some renaming. . . Nuff said. IT WORKED. I can continue with the editing. Thank you so much, browj2!

Hi

Sometimes just double left clicking the double headed arrow - "Optimise Timeline View" at the very bottom right of the screen fixes that.

Glad to know it's not just me. I've had this or similar problem with previous versions. It happened almost every time I deleted the beginning of a scene, then undeleted it. It hasn't been as bad with the current MEP Premium, but did happen once (so far).

Back for another comment. Just installed the new update, and BANG, the problem was back. This time I tried what Scenestealer wrote

I have the Movie Edit Pro Premium version 16.0.1.22(UDP3) update
and have the same problem as previously mentioned. This did not occur in the older
versions I had.

 When editing a project and part way through, and I want to review my work and press play back, it always goes to the start of the project.    I can’t get it to play just the portion I’m working on.    I’ve tried moving the red arrowed pointer to the clip I want but it just goes back to the start.    I have also tried the ‘in-point’ and ‘out-point ’range but this makes no difference.  On my previous versions I could just slide the bar to where I wanted to review from and off we went. Very frustrating. .

rwboud-

Did you already try what Scenestealer wrote?

I went through the whole business of making a new project (see above), and that worked, but only till the update, and then the problem was back. The Double-Click recommended by Scenestealer was the solution for me.

@rwboud

With the program open, go to Program Settings (shortcut Y)>Playback tab and check the setting I've highlighted in this screenshot.

Hi Jeff. I tried your suggestion and had started a new project. It now seems to work OK. Many thanks for your help. Getting to know this newer version is a bit of a learning curve and finding my way around. The slideshow music, for example, now only seems to have a few selections as compared to previous version. Perhaps I should be looking elsewhere?

Again many thanks, much appreciated.
