I loaded a mp4 video file into Movie Edit Pro 2015 Plus and experience a poor quality previewer image (sometimes blocky, sometimes dark patches). How can I resolve this?
Can you analyse the mp4 with MediaInfo and post the results from the Tree view.
To get the results into a copiable form export the results from MediaInfo - File, Export to a text file and then copy and paste the contents of the text file to your reply.
Thanks for your support. When I play the mp4 file with VLC or Windows mediaplayer, I experience no problems. So it must have to do with the Magix previewer setup. Below the MediaInfo report:

The problem is the video - I have highlighted where the problem is.
What is the source of this video ?
If video capture from screen then you need to capture at a fixed framerate, depending on your local TV standard ie PAL or NTSC, of 25 fps for PAL or 30 fps for NTSC.
Thanks a lot for your investigation. The source of the video was a Sony Hi8 tape which was digitised and burnt onto DVD in Video TS format. This DVD with Video TS format had to be ripped with Handbrake to convert into mp4 which Magix should be able to read. Do you have a solution for the DVD´s with Video TS format i.e. how to convert them so that Magix can read them.
The .VOB files from the Video TS folder should be able to be dragged straight onto the MEP timeline from the DVD disk and then edited and exported in whatever format you want. If that does not seem to be working a tip is to copy the file to hard disk in explorer and rename the .VOB extension to .mpg before importing to your project.
I have no experience with Handbrake but it is most likely the issue is in the MP4 conversion, not in the DVD mpeg (.VOB) files. You could try ripping again with some different settings / templates in Handbrake.
Thanks a lot for your reactions. The disc contains a Video TS folder with files with a .vob extension. I followed your suggestion by 1) copying the files to harddisk but when importing as .vob into Magix an error message appeared, and 2) by copying the files to harddisk and renaming them to .mpg but when importing into Magix, Magix gort stuck (frozen). Do you have other suggestions?
Issue is that all my Sony Hi8 camcorder tapes were digitised and output files burnt on DVD in so called Video TS format (.vob files). The company who digitised the tapes suggested to rip and convert the files with Handbrake into .mp4 files for loading into Magix.
. . . . copying the files to harddisk but when importing as .vob into Magix an error message appeared . . . .
Did you copy all the files in the Video TS folder or just the VOB's - you need all the files and the video should appear as 1 movie called Movie 1 in the MEP Media pane.
. . . . an error message appeared . . . .
What was the error message ? This -
or this
This will also be exhibited by the audio going out of sync the longer you play the video in the preview window,.
Try opening a new project and turn off Automatically create proxy files in the project settings ( E key) before importing the video again.
. . . . renaming them to .mpg but when importing into Magix, Magix gort stuck (frozen) . . .
Was it actually stuck or taking a long time creating the frametables? You should have seen a blue bar advancing across the scree at the bottom ot the MEP window.
Note: viewing a DVD video at full screen on a higher resolution monitor or TV, eg 1920 x 1080 or 4K, the image can look blocky due to the low resolution (702 x 570) of the source video
You made my day! Yesterday, I did not copy all files in the Video TS folder. Following your suggestion of today, I copied all files in the Video TS folder and was able to import into Magix! The image in the previewer is now OK.
Did you copy all the files in the Video TS folder or just the VOB's - you need all the files and the video should appear as 1 movie called Movie 1 in the MEP Media pane.
You should be able to copy just the VOB you want. I did it by navigating via MEP Media Pool but, make sure when the DVD TS folder is selected you go to the top right Media Pool > Display options and deselect the "DVD Media view" option (this is hidden unless the DVD Video TS Folder is selected in the File Folder Tree), find the .VOB you want and hit the import down arrow icon, it will prompt you to save it to a location and it will import from the disc and appear in your timeline as a .VOB, in one swoop.
